UNSW will be the first of possibly three foreign universities allowed into Singapore, and will benefit from government and private research dollars, as well as financial help to set up from the Singaporean Government.
The UNSW deputy vice-chancellor (international), John Ingleson, who announced the deal yesterday, said the University of NSW Singapore would open in 2007 and be owned and operated by the Kensington-based university.
UNSW will be granted an operating licence from the Singaporean Government, sign a 60-year lease for the greenfields site in South Changi, and be able to compete for government and private research funding, which is substantially higher in Singapore as a percentage of GDP than in Australia.

Three UNSW 4th Year Food Science students, Hae-Jin Song, Bin He, and Alex Lac have recently returned from Indonesia where they took part in a study of Indonesians' responses to Australian food.
Consumers in Asia are having to rein in spending and look to their basic needs first, while in the United States, people are generally confident, cashed up and are looking for new ideas.
There is a clear need for more research on PROP screening of populations, here, in the USA, Asia and elsewhere, if only to determine whether and to what extent food companies may be missing the mark in targeting consumer perceptions and preferences.

It didn't happen, but we can only contemplate with some wonderment the kind of private advice and ego-pumping aggro that must have been going in to ministers, and not be too surprised at what we heard publicly in the intemperate language of that time and hear now in its recent, grubbier derivatives.
With its affirmation of humanist ethics and the universal brotherhood of man, it inspired all the nations of Eastern Asia and became the spiritual cornerstone of the most populous and oldest living civilization on earth.
The Asia constituency has put a lot of connection into the relationships with Asia, and that is the sustenance now in this time of need and, because I am of course an optimist, the leaven for the future.
