 Freight on Rail
Freight on Rail is designed to help local and regional authorities, through all the stages of the modal shift to rail such as planning a rail-freight strategy, accessing grants, understanding technical issues and obstacles and engaging with terminal operators, local business and the logistics industry.
Freight on Rail is a partnership between the transport trade unions, the Rail Freight Group, Railtrack, Transport 2000 and the rail freight operating companies.
Freight on Rail works to promote the economic, social and environmental benefits of rail freight both nationally and locally.

RAMBERG, J. - Unification of the Law of International Freight Forwarding
Particularly when the freight forwarder acts as a cargo consolidator, difficulties arise in deciding whether he should nevertheless be considered as an agent or rather as a principal in the transaction resulting in a liability for the freight forwarder as carrier.
In my view, the freight forwarder's quotation of a fixed price without the duty to account to his customer for the composition of that price constitutes such a statement or conduct tantamount to an implied agreement by the freight forwarder to be regarded as principal in the transaction.
If the freight forwarder performed the service or carriage using his own facilities or means of transport he would, of course, be free to subject the contract to his own specific conditions insofar as these did not depart from any compulsorily applicable regime.

 Freight Forwarders
Freight forwarders assist exporters in preparing price quotations by advising on freight costs, port charges, consular fees, costs of special documentation, insurance costs, and their handling fees.
An international freight forwarder is an agent for the exporter in moving cargo to an overseas destination.
Export freight forwarders are licensed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to handle air freight and the Federal Maritime Commission to handle ocean freight.

 Freight Forwarders
Freight forwarders are familiar with the import laws of foreign countries and make sure that the exporters shipment of goods comply with those foreign laws and that all paperwork is certified by the proper authorities.
A freight forwarder will locate the best or most inexpensive vessel to transport the exporters shipment of goods and to make certain that these goods get from the exporters location to their destination.
The manner in which goods are transported (air freight or ocean shipping) depends upon the type, weight and size of the cargo, required speed of delivery, destination, and cost.

Online TDM Encyclopedia - Freight Transport Management
Freight vehicles are a small portion of total urban-peak traffic (operators tend to schedule their trips to avoid urban-peak driving to minimize congestion delays), but heavy trucks constitute a large portion of traffic on some corridors, such as highways to ports and major industrial areas.
Freight planning and TDM programs can be implemented by various government agencies, and by businesses that profit from increased freight efficiency.
Freight management costs may include additional facility investments (such as improved rail and port terminals), subsidies and logistic management expenses.

 Freight Train: A Review
Freight Train is a card game played by two to five players who meld trains by switching cars placed in freight yards.
Freight cars left in the player's switching yard at the end of first round bring the player additional money but, by the end of the third round, cost the player money.
During set up, players lay out their initial locomotives (5 to 7 depending on the number of players); the main freight yard of five tracks is filled with 25 freight cards; each player lays out his switch yard and places 12 freight cars in it.

 "Freight" Defined & Explained
The amount of freight is usually fixed by the agreement of the parties and if there be no agreement, the amount is to be ascertained by the usage of the trade and the circumstances and reason of the case.
In general, the master has a lien on the goods and need not part with them until the freight is paid; and when the regulations of the revenue require them to be landed in a public warehouse, the master may enter them in his own name and preserve the lien.
When the merchant hires the whole ship for the entire voyage, he must pay the freight though he does not fully lade the ship; he is of course only bound to pay in proportion to the goods he puts on board, when he does not agree to provide a full cargo.

Perhaps Freight Train merely distills those others to the essence which makes them succeed-- after all, the mechanism wouldn't be repeated so often if it didn't work.
