		The URNG was formed as guerrilla umbrella organization on February 7 by four revolutionary groups active in Guatemala: the Guerrilla Army of the Poor (EGP), the Revolutionary Organization of Armed People (ORPA), the Rebel Armed Forces (FAR), and the National Directing Nucleus of PGT (PGT-NDN).
		On 29 December 1996, a peace agreement was signed by the government and the URNG in the presence of UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali, officially ending the 36-year Civil War.
		The Secretary-General of the URNG, Comandante Rolando Morán, and president Álvaro Arzú jointly received the UNESCO Peace Prize for their efforts to end the civil war and attaining the peace agreement.

	Former Leader of URNG Army of the Poor Dies in Guatemala

		The "legal integration of URNG" means the process whereby URNG members are to be integrated into political, economic, social and cultural life in a context of dignity, security, legal safeguards and the full exercise of their civil rights and duties.

	Guatemala: Agreement on the definitive ceasefire
		Once the assembly points for members of URNG have been agreed upon and the military units of the Guatemalan armed forces referred to in annex C have been redeployed, the minimum distance between the units and the assembly points shall be 6 kilometres, in order to ensure that the operation proceeds without incident.
		URNG shall provide the United Nations with detailed information on the number of troops, lists of names, inventories of weapons, explosives and mines, and all other necessary information concerning the existence of minefields, munitions and other military equipment, both in their possession and in storage.
		The integration of URNG in the country's political life shall proceed in accordance with the agreement on basis for the integration of URNG into the political life of the country, which is subject to United Nations verification.

		Mi interpretación de lo acontecido con la URNG es que es el resultado largamente labrado de una forma autoritaria y sectaria de concebir a la política que dio como resultado una larga cadena de desprendimientos, divisiones y deserciones.
		En lugar de discutir la formación de un frente amplio de centro izquierda encabezado por una candidata o candidato también de carácter amplio, la URNG se decidió por lanzar a gente que podrá tener prestigio interno en la organización pero que afuera de ella tiene poca significación.
		El panorama es negro y si la URNG no examina a profundidad la intolerancia con la que ha procedido a lo largo de toda su historia, la perspectiva será una larga agonía y la intrascendencia.
