The Division is headquartered at Leighton Barracks, Wuerzburg, Germany, on the banks of the Main River in the middle of the Unter Franken wine-growing region of northern Bavaria.
Division Artillery (DIVARTY) is headquartered in Bamberg, Germany, and consists of 1st Bn., 33rd Field Artillery; 1st Bn., 6th FA headquartered in Bamberg; and 1st Bn., 7th FA, headquartered in Schweinfurt; 1st Bn., and 5th FA headquartered at Fort Riley, Kan..
The division's mission was to provide a covering force for the 1st AD units returning to Germany, and to continue to implement the military aspects of the General Framework Agreement for Peace.

 1st Armored Division
Armored Division was published just after the war ended for distribution to the soldiers and their families.
Armored Division in the breakout from the Anzio beachhead in May, 1944 got a certain amount of consolation out of the fact that they were captured by "a veteran division", as they put it.
The two armored regiments were reformed into three separate tank battalions, the 1st, 4th and 13th; the infantry regiment was split into three separate battalions, the 6th, 11th and 14th, and nor changes in personnel and equipment were effected in the artillery, reconnaissance, tank destroyer, engineer, medical and ordnance battalions.

 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division
The mission of the 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, is to stand ready to support any call to mission that is ordered by 1st Armored Division for soldiers or supplies no matter the destination.
When the 1st Armored Division moved to Italy, CCA fought, first in the area of Naples, and later at the Anzio beachhead, where it remained until the breakout in May 1944.
The 1st Armored Division was reactivated in 1951 at Ft. Hood, TX, and CCA spent the next few years training and testing new Tables of Organization and Equipment.

Palmerton, 25, of Auburn, Neb., died on July 23 in Qal'eh-Yegaz, Afghanistan, where he came under enemy small arms fire while conducting a dismounted patrol.

He doesnt have first names, but they were in the 3rd Armored Div in Ft Knox, KY in '52, then they went to Ft. Hood, TX in '53 and then overseas to Korea during '53-'54.
Back was from Martin, Kentucky and my father was from Bath County, Kentucky and they both served in the 3rd Armored Division 83rd Recon from 1955 through 1957.
He was a member of the 3rd Infantry Division, 3rd Reconnaissance Company, and was in tanks at some point in Korea.

 Information about Army Spc. Joe Roche and for Care Packages to Soldiers
Originally, this page was for care packages needed for soldiers within the 16th Combat Engineer Battalion of the U.S. Army's 1st Armored Division (Joe Roche's unit) whose deployment was extended in April '04 after personal possessions had been shipped home.
This page then was dedicated to sending care packages to the 1st Cavalry Division, which arrived in Iraq in January 2004, and began departing in December 2004.
The U.S.P.S. delivers packages with APO addresses to the U.S. military, which, in turn, delivers them to the appropriate units.

In his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention Thursday night, President George W. Bush quoted U.S. Army Specialist Joe Roche, whose e-mails from the front in Iraq have been published by The National Center for Public Policy Research.
The quote comes from an essay penned by Roche as he served in Baghdad with the 16th Armored Engineer Battalion, part of the 1st Armored Division.
It was published by The National Center in April.
