The 5th Armored Division was activated on October 10, 1941, and reached the United Kingdom in February 1944.
Turning north, the Division forged the steel ring around the Germans in Normandy by advancing to the edge of the city of Argentan on 12 August—8 days before the Argentan-Falaise Gap was closed.
The reconnaissance squadron of the Division sent a patrol across the German border on the afternoon of 11 September to be the first of the Allies to cross the enemy frontier.

The Division crossed the Rhine 21 March and advanced to Hadamar and Limburg an der Lahn, relieving elements of the 9th Armored Division, 28 March.
Advancing rapidly in the wake of the 9th Armored, the 2d Infantry Division crossed the Weser at Veckerhagen, 6–7 April, captured Göttingen 8 April, established a bridgehead across the Saale, 14 April, seizing Merseburg on the 15th.
The 2d Infantry Division was chosen to spearhead the United Nations Command response to this incident and on 21 August, Task Force Brady, a group of ROK soldiers, American infantry, and engineers, swept into the area and cut down the infamous "Panmunjeom Tree".

 25th Infantry Division Association: The Division
The Hawaiian Division's support units composed primarily of the 3rd Engineer Regiment, the 11th Quartermaster Regiment and the 11th Medical Regiment were reorganized and redesignated as separate battalions and assigned to the two new divisions.
During the period from the summer of 1966 to the spring of 1967 the 25th Division was the largest division in Vietnam with four brigades under its command, the division's 1st and 2nd Brigades as well as the 3rd Brigade, 4th Division and the 196th Light Infantry Brigade.
The division headquarters served as the Multinational Force staff furnishing support and direction to the United Nations force composed of members of 27 countries with the 2nd and 3rd Brigades and other division elements furnishing security in several parts of the country.

 20th Armored Division Training
Upon activation on 15 March 1943, the Division was assigned its mission as an oversea replacement division.
The 20th Tank Battalion went to Fort Bragg to work with the 100th Infantry Division and observe glider operations for tank-crew delivery (the latter disastrous at best and never used to later cross the Rhine as was rumored at the time!).
To command the 20th and lead the division in combat was the assignment given to Major General Orlando Ward.

Under the division's new modular design, the fires brigade was independently deployable and capable of absorbing temporary units into its permanent structure and to collaborate with joint armed forces fires support in accordance with the needs of the mission.
The purpose of the fires brigade was to combine core artillery and division artillery into a modular brigade that could bring to a future fight a composition of field artillery elements to support the required mission.
With the realignment and downsizing of the Army force, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4TH Infantry Division Artillery (Mechanized), was reassigned to Fort Hood, Texas, on 15 December 1995, where it replaced the deactivating 2D Armored Division Artillery.

He told us that he was an old Horse Cavalry Soldier and was not too happy with having to teach raw recruits and draftees at that being raw recruits not volunteers but draftees.
The U.S. Army was still relying on the Horse Cavalry although Hitler's Tank and Armored Corps was forcing the U. to look favorably on more tanks and armor.

 51st Mechanized Division
During the Gulf War, some authorities indicate that the 17th Armored Division and the 51st Mechanized Division were subordinate to a II Armored Corps.
On 13 April, the regime's forces, comprised of the infantry and mechanized infantry units of the 51st Division (The Command of the Sariyet Al-Jebel Forces), attacked the resistance headquarters in the Ali bin Al-Hussein region, from Al-Medeyna-Nahr Salih axis.
The resistance forces also attacked the headquarters of the 20th Armored Brigade in the Al-Athel region 10 Km north of the Talha district, inflicting heavy casualties and destroying equipment.

In early December, the Division was deployed to continental Europe, landing in Normandy, and moving south to a marshaling area at Rennes.

 The 42nd Rainbow Divison of the US Seventh Army, liberators of Dachau, April 29, 1945
Joyce Kilmer, a famous American poet, was a soldier in the Rainbow Division; he was killed in action in France in World War I. The Rainbow Division fought in some of the bloodiest battles of World War I including the battles at Verdun and Argonne, as well as the famous Battle of the Champagne.
The second photograph shows a plaque which was hung on the opposite wall of the Jourhaus on April 28, 1996 in honor of the 20th Armored Division of the US Seventh Army which provided tank support.
The 20th accepted an invitation to be honored at Dachau when the 45th Thunderbird Division, which participated in the Dachau liberation, declined the honor.
