  35th Infantry Division (Mechanized)
The 35th Division was constituted on 18 July 1917 as one of the 17 National Guard divisions authorized for service in World War I. The division was organized on 25 August 1917 at Camp Doniphan, Oklahoma (today a part of Fort Sill) from the National Guard of Kansas and Missouri.
The 138th Infantry was relieved from its assignment to the division and sent to the Aleutian Islands.
The 66th Infantry Brigade, one of the maneuver brigades of the 35th Infantry Division (Mechanized), which was to have as many as 1,500 to 1,700 soldiers be mobilized for this mission, was to be assigned to U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR) to head up Task Force Santa Fe.

 25th Infantry Division Association: The Division
In 1941 its major units consisted of the 21st Infantry Brigade, comprised of the 19th and 21st Infantry Regiments; the 22nd Infantry Brigade comprised of the 27th and 35th Infantry Regiments; and the 11th Field Artillery Brigade, comprised of the 8th, 11th, and 13th Field Artillery Regiments.
For its valor on Mount Austin the 35th Infantry Regimental Combat Team consisting of the 35th Infantry Regiment, the 64th Field Artillery Battalion and the 25th Reconnaissance Troop was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation.
During the period from the summer of 1966 to the spring of 1967 the 25th Division was the largest division in Vietnam with four brigades under its command, the division's 1st and 2nd Brigades as well as the 3rd Brigade, 4th Division and the 196th Light Infantry Brigade.

The Piper Cub air force didn`t cause us to panic into the underbrush or dive into gullys, but we did learn not to face them in admiration as they flew by at treetop height.

 About The 30th Infantry Division Veterans of WWII
30th Infantry Division was not involved in the initial onslaught of D-Day as were the 1st, 29th and 4th Infantry Divisions and the 2nd and 5th Ranger Battalions, but as time went on, the 30th received their full share of unexpected wartime disasters.
The 30th Division was committed to its baptism of fire on 15 June 1944, in a sector previously occupied by the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, with its first headquarters being established at a point just one mile south of Isigny, after leaving Omaha Beach.
The 30th Infantry Division was soon pinched out of the front line and went into reserve for the first time since their combat action began on 15 June.

On 11 July, the 35th joined in fellow National Guard divisions in the fight for St. Lo and quickly discovered the special difficulties posed by the formidable tangles of rock, earth, and trees called "hedgerows." Used all over Normandy to separate farmers' fields, the Germans had reinforced these natural defensive barriers.
For four days, the 35th Division's 137th and 320th Infantry Regiments made difficult progress against the hedgerows on the lower slopes of Hill 122.

There is no need for out of state brigades in either the 36th or 40th Infantry Divisions.
There are enough National Guard Brigades in New England to field the old 26th Infantry Division, but no, we have them posted to the 42nd and 29th Divisions.

Assigned to one of the last segregated units of the US Army, the 24th Regiment of the 25th Infantry Division, my father was witness to manÂ’s inhumanity to man; he saw combat in Korea and was wounded in action before his nineteenth birthday.
Comments: I enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 17, 1951 and was part of an Army "experiment" which amounted to moving enlistees (mostly 17 and 18 year olds) from all over the country in early 1951 to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii where we were given basic training, reduced by 4 weeks.
I was assigned to an infantry company in the 35th Infantry Regiment where I was in operations with that Regiment until I was rotated 10 1/2 months later, in the middle of June, 1952, reaching Adak, Alaska aboard a transport ship on July 4, 1952.

The 25th Infantry Division Association established an Archive collection at the The George C. Marshall Foundation in Lexington, Virginia in the mid-1990s.
Among notable recent donations are a hand-drawn banner of a 35th Infantry Regiment Mortar Platoon circa 1945 and a 12th Infantry Regiment guidon that was used in Vietnam.
The Archives are maintained in a three-story climate-controlled vault that also houses the papers of General of the Army George C. Marshall, who served as the senior U.S. military commander in World War II and later as Secretary of State during the Korean War.
