In the United States Navy, the 3rd Fleet is the fleet responsible for naval activities in the eastern and northern Pacific Ocean.
The 3rd Fleet was initially formed on March 15, 1943 under the command of Admiral William F. Halsey, and was served in the Pacific Ocean Areas during World War II.
It was reactivated February 1, 1973 at Ford Island in Pearl Harbor as part of a Pacific Fleet reorganization.

The US, which is by law committed to providing for Taiwan's defense by selling weapons to the island, has in the past shown its willingness to intervene in crises in the Taiwan Strait.
