  45th Reconnaissance Squadron [45th RS]
On January 1, 1953, the 45th was redesignated the 45th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, Photographic-Jet.
The unit was redesignated the 45th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron on January 1, 1967.
On July 1, 1994, the squadron was reactivated at Offutt AFB, Nebraska, as the 45th Reconnaissance Squadron.

The squadron flew the World War II P-51’s which were actually designated RF-51 (Reconnaissance Fighter) but we always referred to them as P-51’s or Mustangs.

The job of photo reconnaissance was to take pictures of a target area before a bombing raid, then to stay until the raid was over and then take a second set of photos.

This trophy was presented by the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation to the 363rd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing in recognition of establishing three new transcontinental speed records flying RF-101C aircraft on November 27, 1957.
It also served in Southeast Asia (SEA) with the 45th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, one of the first aircraft in SEA to revert to camouflage markings for combat use.
It was transferred from the 186th Tactical Reconnaissance Group, Mississippi Air National Guard, Key Field, Mississippi, to the USAF Museum on October 27, 1978.

The squadron was reassigned to I Bomber Command, on 15 October1943 and to XX Bomber Command, on 6 February 1944, at which date, the squadron was disbanded at Clovis AAFld, NM.
The 23d Troop Carrier Squadron was itself constituted on 11 November 1944 and activated on 21 November 1944 at Pope Field, NC, assigned to the 60th Troop Carrier Wing, flying the C-46(until 1946) and C-47(until 1947) aircraft.
The squadron provided reconnaissance and forward air control over the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Southeast Asia, from April 1966-January 1973 and tactical air control for the evacuation of Phnom Penh, Cambodia and the SS Mayaguez incident, in April and May 1975.

On 29 June 1951 the Royal Australian Air Force’s No. 77 Squadron, equipped with 26 F-51s, which was based in Japan for occupation duty, was assigned to the US Fifth Air Force.
Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, formed in September 1950, flew both F-51s and RF-51s.
