The Division landed in the San Fabian area of Luzon, 11 January 1945, to enter the struggle for the liberation of the Philippines.
The Division held its ground and the assault was repulsed; the brunt of the attack was absorbed by the 14th Infantry, "Golden Dragons".
In 1985, the Division began its reorganization from a conventional infantry division to a light infantry division.

 25th Infantry Division Association: The Division
Beginning in January 1946 the 25th Division's area of responsibility was greatly increased when it was ordered to assume the occupation areas formerly under the control of the inactivating 33rd and 98th Infantry Divisions.
The 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry was transferred to the 3rd Brigade as its third battalion and the 2nd Battalion, 9th Artillery was attached as the direct support artillery battalion as well as Troop C, 3/4th Cavalry as the brigade's reconnaissance element.
During the period from the summer of 1966 to the spring of 1967 the 25th Division was the largest division in Vietnam with four brigades under its command, the division's 1st and 2nd Brigades as well as the 3rd Brigade, 4th Division and the 196th Light Infantry Brigade.

Prior to 2005 the "Tropic Lightning" Division was composed of three infantry brigades (two in Hawaii; one at Fort Lewis, one at Fort Richardson), an aviation brigade, division artillery, a division support command, and a complement of separate battalions.
The Division's mission was two-fold: The Division staff assumed the role of the Multinational Force Headquarters while soldiers of the 2d and 3d Brigades became members of the United States contingent.
Soldiers of the 25th Infantry Division was called to arms to fight the Global War On Terrorism in March 2003, when 107 soldiers representing eight units from 25th ID(L) and USARHAW were deployed to U.S. Central Command in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

At the expiration of its term of service, the regiment was retained in service, but, September 1, 1864, consolidated into a battalion of four companies, C, F, G and H; the men entitled thereto were honorably discharged September 12, 1864, in New York City.
