The 4th Infantry Division was organized at Camp Greene, North Carolina on December 10, 1917 under the command of MG George H. Cameron.
The "Ivy Division" returned from Vietnam in December and was rejoined in Ft. Carson by its former 3rd Brigade from Hawaii, where it had re-deployed as part of the withdrawal of the 25th Infantry Division.
The 4th Infantry Division was scheduled to take part in the Iraq War in the spring of 2003 by spearheading an advance from Turkey into northern Iraq.

The 66th Infantry Brigade is one of the maneuver brigades of the 35th Infantry Division (Mechanized), headquartered at Fort Leavenworth, KS.
It was relieved from the 47th Infantry Division on 9 February 1991, and assigned to 34th Infantry Division on 10 February 1991.
It was relieved from assignment to the 34th Infantry Division and reassigned to the 35th Infantry Division.

Relieved on 5 July 1946 from assignment to the Americal Division and assigned to the 33d Infantry Division, it was reorganized and Federally recognized on 11 February 1947 at Chicago.
It reorganized on 1 April 1963 to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 33d Division; on 1 December 1965 to consist of the 1st Battalion; and on 1 February 1968 to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 33d Infantry Brigade.

The 66th was ordered to proceed immediately to the staging and assembly areas of Southern France, and units began the long trip May 26.
Division artillery battalions were assigned various duties: the 870th FA became MPs; the 871st FA guarded installations at the Miramas Depot; the 872nd FA took over Marseille and Port de Bouc and the 721st FA operated as a transportation unit.
Normally supplying one division, the 66th QM Co. was required to serve 100,000 men at the peak of the load, the equivalent of seven divisions.

 66th Armored Regiment
On 15 July 1940, the unit was re-designated from the 66th Infantry (Light Tanks) to the 66th Armored Regiment as part of the newly formed 2nd Armored Division, stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia.
In December 1942, the 66th as a part of the 2nd Armored Division participated in the amphibious invasion of French Morocco in North Africa and was a part of the Division's triumphant entry into Casablanca.
On 1 August 1944 the 3rd Battalion, 66th Armored Regiment on the north and the 1st Battalion, 66th Armored Regiment on the south of the Villebaudon-Tessy-sur-Vire road, attacked.

On this Christmas Eve the ship carried 2,235 men of the US 64th Infantry Regiment of the US 66th Infantry Division which had left New York on November 14th.
The 66th Infantry Division alone, lost 14 officers and 748 men, but the exact number is not known due to the hurried departure at 9am from Pier 38 at Southhampton and the unorganized boarding procedures.
