  US 1st Armored Division
The US 1st Armored Division, nicknamed "Old Ironsides", is a combat division of the United States Army based in Wiesbaden, Germany.
This division is part of the U.S. V Corps (technically), or is directly subordinate to the 7th US Army, USAREUR (in certain cases).
The division was deployed to Texas, Florida, and Georgia, in response to the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The US 15th Corps reaches the outskirts of Argentan and meet stiff resistance from the remnants of the 116th Panzer Division.
Fuel reserves to the US 3rd Army are becoming critical, but Patton orders his armored spearheads to continue the advance east and when they run out of gas, they are to abandon their tanks and continue the attack on foot.

 Combat History of the 6th AD: Introduction
The Division policy at this time, and throughout the balance of the way, was to use Reserve Command headquarters primarily to control all combat troops temporarily held in divisional reserve, and secondarily to carry out defensive missions which did not require the complete command set-up provided in a combat command headquarters.
Division Trains, supported many times with armor in their columns, were constantly on the road supplying the Division from supply points now far back towards the base of the Peninsula.
The diversion of the fight with the infantry division that had come in on the rear of the 6th Armored Division allowed the garrison at BREST to become fully alerted and the chance for capture by a sudden stroke, which might have been possible on 7 August, was now lost.

 25th Infantry Division Association: The Division
The Hawaiian Division's support units composed primarily of the 3rd Engineer Regiment, the 11th Quartermaster Regiment and the 11th Medical Regiment were reorganized and redesignated as separate battalions and assigned to the two new divisions.
During the period from the summer of 1966 to the spring of 1967 the 25th Division was the largest division in Vietnam with four brigades under its command, the division's 1st and 2nd Brigades as well as the 3rd Brigade, 4th Division and the 196th Light Infantry Brigade.
On 6th December 1969 the 4th Brigade, 25th Infantry Division was activated for that mission and placed under the command of the U.S. Army Pacific.

The 6th Armored was deactivated September 18, 1945 at Camp Shanks, New York.
In 1947 the Sixth Armored Division Association was organized to perpetuate the memory of 1,274 fallen comrades, to assist in promoting an everlasting peace, and to serve as a medium of contact among the men who served in the division.
Sadly, the alumni association for the division formally disbanded at its 53rd and final reunion in September 2000.

While in route to Brest lead elements of the division stumbled head-long into the path of the US 6th Armored Division which had surged through Brittany and was poised at the gates of Brest.
The 6th Armored was promptly redirected after leaving a screen towards Brest and a swirling battle ensued on August 9th and 10th centered around Plouvien, Kerdalaes and Lananneyen.

HISTORY: The 10th Armored Division ("Tiger Division") was activated 15 July 1942 at Ft. Benning, Ga. and assigned to the Armored Force.
Leaving Teuertheville 25 Oct., the Division moved to Mars-la-Tour, where it entered combat (1 Nov.) in support of the XX Corps, containing enemy troops in the area.
The Division was making preparations for the Third Army drive to the Rhine when it was ordered north to stop the German winter offensive, 17 December.

I was with the 6th tank bn from 1949 till Oct 1951 and I know of no one who got out of D Co. after we were caught in the ambush by the Chinese.
Comments: Looking for 6th Tank Battalion 24th ID tanker's that were in the unit during Jan 1952 that became members of the 140th Tank Battalion.
The 6th Tank Bn was on paper attached to the 1st Cav, but fought with the 24th Infantry Div.

He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Three died in Al Haqlaniyah, Iraq, on Oct. 3, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their HMMWV during combat operations.
Benson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 314th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 78th Division, Fort Drum, N.Y. Lance Cpl. Evenor C. Herrera, 22, of Gypsum, Colo., died Aug. 10 from wounds received from the detonation of an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations near Ar Ramadi, Iraq.
He was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Sgt. Jason T. Palmerton, 25, of Auburn, Neb., died on July 23 in Qal'eh-Yegaz, Afghanistan, where he came under enemy small arms fire while conducting a dismounted patrol.

Federalized in World War II, this unit was assigned to the Sixth Armored Division, one of General George S. Patton's famous Third Army divisions.
While serving with the 6th Armored Division, the 212th was known as an "Armored Field Artillery Battalion", and the title of the battalion's official history is "History of the 212th AFA".

My quest led through the US Archives, AWON, the 6th Armored Division Association and finally, Company B, still having reunions after all these years.
It was wonderful meeting these gallant old soldiers and they welcomed me with open arms.
From AWONers, I learned of an organization in Luxembourg called US Veterans Friends, Luxembourg (USVFL), which has as its primary purpose to greet and honor returning American soldiers and their families.
