The US II Corps was a corps of the United States Army and the first American formation of any size to see combat in Europe or Africa during World War II.
The Corps consisted of the U.S. 3rd Infantry Division, U.S. 9th Infantry Division, and U.S. 45th Infantry Division, all under the command of Lieutenant-General Omar Nelson Bradley.
During the Spring offense in May 1944, the II Corps consisted of the US 85th and 88th Infantry Divisions.

 101st Airborne Division WWII Division Chronicle
The reserve division was disbanded 15 August 1942, and concurrently reconstituted in the Army of the United States as the 101st Airborne Division.
Given the mission of anchoring the corps' southern flank, the division was also to eliminate the German's secondary beach defenses, allowing the seaborne forces of the 4th Infantry Division, once ashore, to continue inland.
In the division's southern sector, it was to seize the la Barquette lock and destroy a highway bridge northwest of the town of Carentan and a railroad bridge further west.

The 88th U.S. Army Reserve Regional Readiness Command (88th RRC) was established in 1996 at Fort Snelling, St. Paul, Minn. as the command/control and support headquarters for all Reserve units in the six state region of the upper Midwest.

The 350th Infantry Regiment was first activated at Camp Dodge, Iowa on September 4 1917, as part of the 88th Infantry Division.
During this period, members of the 350th Infantry were the first of the 88th Division to receive the French Croix de Guerre, awarded for heroic achievement.
The 350th Infantry was deactivated late in 1947, but was again activated on June 15 1948 at Camp Truscott, in Austria, to replace the 16th Infantry Regiment in occupying the United States Zone of Austria and the United States Sector of Vienna.

 The 326th Glider Infantry Regiment (GIR) - Unit History
The regiment's first combat assignment was to relieve the 101st Infantry of the 26th Division in the Toul sector in France where they would enter the line as part of the 82nd Division under the control of the French VII Army.  On August 4th, the regiment engaged in the Division's first offensive action.
On March 1, 1945 a reorganization occurred and the 88th GIR was incorporated into the 326th thus forming one Glider Infantry Regiment of 3 battalions.
During this time the 13th Airborne Division was alerted several times for possible operations, however each time the fast moving Army ground forces preempted the need for an airborne operation.

Like Bonn, he concludes that the 88th Infantry Division, and indeed the 5th U.S. army in which it served, were more than equal to the Wehrmacht at the height of its combat efficiency.
Primarily, however, it is a tribute to American infantry divisions of that war.

 13th Airborne Division During WW II - Overview
General Chapman, one of the U.S Army's early airborne pioneers, was head of Airborne Command at Camp Mackall and had seen action in the Mexican Border incident and World War I. At the beginning of 1945 the 13th Airborne Division, embarked for Europe and arrived in February.
The division's major units when they arrived in France were the 515th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR) commanded by Colonel Harvey J Jablonsky; the 88th Glider Infantry Regiment (GIR) commanded by Colonel Samuel Roth and the 326th GIR commanded by Colonel William Poindexter.
To strengthen the division for the final push into Germany the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team commanded by Colonel Rupert Graves was also assigned as a permanent unit.

The 100th Infantry Battalion (Nisei)(Separate), which stood in for the 2nd Battalion, 133rd Infantry, from September 1943 through May 1944, and the 442nd Infantry Regiment (Nisei) which was attached to our Division from June 1944 through August 1944, have an especially honored place in our memories and history.
