The Division crossed the Rhine 21 March and advanced to Hadamar and Limburg an der Lahn, relieving elements of the 9th Armored Division, 28 March.
Advancing rapidly in the wake of the 9th Armored, the 2d Division crossed the Weser at Veckerhagen, 6–7 April, captured Göttingen 8 April, established a bridgehead across the Saale, 14 April, seizing Merseburg on the 15th.
The 2d Infantry Division was chosen to spearhead the United Nations Command response to this incident and on 21 August, Task Force Brady, a group of ROK soldiers American infantry and engineers, swept into the area and cut down the infamous "Panmunjom Tree".

 25th Infantry Division Association: The Division
The 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry was transferred to the 3rd Brigade as its third battalion and the 2nd Battalion, 9th Artillery was attached as the direct support artillery battalion as well as Troop C, 3/4th Cavalry as the brigade's reconnaissance element.
During the period from the summer of 1966 to the spring of 1967 the 25th Division was the largest division in Vietnam with four brigades under its command, the division's 1st and 2nd Brigades as well as the 3rd Brigade, 4th Division and the 196th Light Infantry Brigade.
The elements of the 22nd and 87th Infantry and 9th Cavalry left the 25th Division and elements of the 5th, 24th and 35th Infantry and 4th Cavalry were returned.

The veteran American 9th Division from Fort Bragg, N.C., received official credit for breaking through to the west coast of the Cherbourg Peninsula and cutting off more than 25,000 Germans from the main body of enemy troops in France.
The 9th Division scored this first big victory of the Normandy campaign after the drive to isolate Cherbourg had been started by the 82d and 101st Airborne Division and the 4th Division.

After Boot, Bernie (Baby-Face) was assigned to ECHO Company, 2nd BN, 39th Infantry, 9th Division, US Army, and he began his tour of duty on May 23, 1968.
At the age of 20 years, Corporal Rosales was killed in action in the Province of Long An, South Vietnam while checking on a fallen comrade.
I remember Bernie's mother wrote back and sent all of us a box of goodies, cookies, etc. From my recollection, the letter was in Spanish and, unfortunately for us, we couldn't read it.

He was declared MIA on 11-28-1950, his unit was K CO 9th INF 2nd ID. If anyone has any information regarding him or knew him please contact me at brich53071@yahoo.com.
All I know for sure is that he was in the 2d Infantry Division, in a tank company that called itself the "Manchus" that was part of an infantry regiment (perhaps the 7th?).
We served together with a tank unit attached to the 9th Infantry Regiment from about April 1951 to May 1952.

He was the U.S. general leading the attack on the Taliban in Afghanistan in response to the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and The Pentagon.
After an initial tour as a battery Assistant Executive Officer at Fort Sill, he was assigned to the US 9th Infantry Division, Republic of Vietnam, where he served as Forward Observer, Aerial Observer, and Assistant S-3 with 2nd Battalion, 4th Field Artillery.
He was next assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, as US III Corps Deputy Assistant G3, a position he held until 1987 when he assumed command of Division Artillery, US 1st Cavalry Division.

My unit was accompanied by a quad-50 mounted on a deuce and a half; a tank; a deuce and a half full of infantry; plus we had a 50 caliber mounted in the bed of the dumptruck with an M-60 mounted on the "headache board" of the truck.

Welcome to my gallery of pictures and memories of a time long ago when so many of us were young and innocent.
In 1968-69, many of us were young, scared and most of us did not necessarily want to be In Viet Nam.
Nonetheless, we all volunteered for this training and these gentlemen took us in and "showed us the way" through hard training and unrelenting discipline, but more importantly, sharing mutual respect for the job at hand and their love for shooting.
