US Airways is eliminating 81 of its nearly 500 daily flights from Pittsburgh — including roughly one in five departures on mainline jets — as of Nov. 2, the struggling carrier said Friday.
All told, US Airways is shrinking its daily flights from 3,785 to 3,480, a drop of 305.
US Airways also is ending mainline jet service from Pittsburgh to Toronto, Montreal, Louisville, St. Louis and Dayton, Ohio.

US Airways cleared one of the biggest hurdles in its race to meet those conditions since David Siegel assumed the airline’s chief executive position from Stephen Wolf in March, when on August 8 its pilots ratified a new 6.5-year Air Line Pilots Association contract worth some $465 million a year in wage concessions.

The new airline would keep the US Airways name, but US Airways' headquarters in Arlington, Va., would be consolidated at America West's home offices in Tempe, Ariz. America West Chief Executive W. Douglas Parker would be chairman and CEO of the carrier.
If nothing else, US Airways' fares generally should move down closer to those of America West, which already considers itself a discount airline, said Terry Trippler, chief executive of FareFacts.com, a travel Web site.
