U.S. Senate: Legislation & Records Home > Bills & Resolutions > The United States Code
The United States Code is a compilation of most public laws currently in force, organized by subject matter.
The U.S. Code collates the original law with subsequent amendments, and it deletes language that has later been repealed or superseded.
Although the U.S. Code is divided into 50 titles by broad subject area (such as Public Health and Welfare or Education), it is much easier to use the Code’s multi-volume general indexes.

This is important: good code is all about building levels of abstraction, and the higher the final level, the easier it is to express the user's intent.
Use code generation when you come to a place where you have a need that can't be handled without introducing 'smells' using conventional means.
The smallest code generator I've written this week generated a table of the number of bits set in the binary representations of the numbers between 0 and 255 (I needed it for a search algorithm).

United States Code | LII / Legal Information Institute
The U.S. Code, organized by topics into a series of titles, numbered from 1 (General Provisions) through 50 (War and National Defense), contains nearly all statutes of general effect at the time of its compilation.
In sum, to be sure of an up-to-date picture of the statutes dealing with a topic one must consult both a version of the U.S. Code and also determine whether there have been pertinent amendments or additions to the law since its date of compilation.
Some commercially published editions of the U.S. Code include useful editorial notes detailing the changes over time that lie behind current provisions and summarizing court decisions and regulations interpretting them.

Code name - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the Second World War, code names common to the Allies referring to nations, cities, geographical features, military units, military operations, diplomatic meetings, places, and individual persons were agreed upon adapting pre-war naming procedures in use by the governments concerned.
And the Russian code name for the project to base missiles in Cuba was that named after their closest bomber base to the US (just across the Bering Strait from Nome, Alaska), Operation Anadyr.
Code names are frequently chosen to be outside the normal business/domain jargon that the organization uses, in order to not conflict with established terminology.

 U.S. Tax Code On-Line
You can access the Code through its own hierarchical table of contents, a comprehensive (flat) table of contents (Note: this file is almost 300K and takes a while to retrieve), or an index by section number, handy when you're looking up a citation in another document.
For example, in Section 9501(d)(7) of the Code, there's a reference to "section 402(i)" which isn't a cross-reference to the Internal Revenue Code at all, but rather a citation of a section of the Black Lung Benefits Act, as the text goes on to explain.
Conversely, a few references within the Code are not linked because the translator program decided they were external references (if you encounter one of these, it's easy to go to the section index and navigate directly to the cited section).

When it runs rampant through code, it makes the code harder to understand, and people are reluctant to change it.

The US Code of Silence on Pakistan
Since 9/11, top administration officials appear to have observed a "code of silence" on Pakistan, despite countless reports on its links to terror, Taliban and nuclear prolifertion.
This policy is even more relevant now, when the US grand strategy openly calls for slowing down the rise of regional powers.
Indeed, the kid gloves treatment of Pakistan by the US State Department's annual reports of global terrorism suggest that this policy of protecting this strategic asset was in place during the 1990s.

The U.
