The US X Corps was trapped in the frozen fields of North Korea but it got away on a massive sea evacuation operation from Hungnam, and it was redeployed in the Taegu-Pusan area and began to advance northward.

At the Battle of Gettysburg, the last major battle of this corps, General Reynolds was killed near the beginning of the battle, and command was inherited by Brigadier General Abner Doubleday.

The overwhelming majority of active ground forces is deployed in three echelons—a forward operational echelon of four infantry corps; supported by a second operational echelon of two mechanized corps, the armor corps, and an artillery corps; and a strategic reserve of the two remaining mechanized corps and the other artillery corps.
This belief was based on the announcement of the Nixon Doctrine in 1969, which called for a draw-down of US forces in Asia, the withdrawal of the US 7th Infantry Division from South Korea in 1971, and, later, the fall of South Vietnam and President Carter’s plan to withdraw US ground forces from South Korea.
The US X Corps executed amphibious operations at Inchon on 15 September 1950 and at Wonsan on 25 October 1950.

Inchon harbor was the site of a brilliantly executed amphibious Marine assault that turned the tide against North Korean forces during the Korean War.
Conceived by General Douglas MacArthur, the plan landed the 70,000 Marines in X Corps 100 miles behind the North Korean lines on September 15, 1950.
Within two weeks, X Corps had destroyed most of the North Korean army and had the remainder on the run.
