In an effort to modernize the museum in accordance with the changes taking place on Lackland AFB, an exterior renovation of dry-vit siding and a metal roof was added in 1995 at a cost of $125,000.
In October 1996, the museum was placed under the operational control of the 37 Training Wing Vice Commander, and two full-time civilian employees were hired to operate the museum.
This change aligned the museum under the USAF Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, and met the certification standards for an Air Force Field Museum.

She is now prominently displayed at the USAF Armament Museum just outside of Eglin AFB, FL.
The aircraft was accepted by the USAF on October 28, 1958.
On July 17, 1961, she was redesignated as a JC-130A and modified by Temco Aerosystems and assigned to the 6515 Test Squadron at Patrick AFB, FL where she flew missions for NASA over the Air Force Eastern Test Range.

The USAF has formed a blue-ribbon panel to review practices at the USAF Museum where, after an audit, it was discovered that hundreds, if not thousands, of artifacts are missing.
Scott Ferguson, the former USAF Museum chief of collections, is under indictment in the Dayton US District Court and is charged with selling an armored vehicle in 1999, knowing that it had been stolen from the museum in 1996.
After being interviewed by the USAF's Office of Special Investigations, Harris' position was eliminated, Ferguson was cleared of Harris' claims (however, he was indicted on the previously mentioned charge), and Harris became a dish washer.

Terry Aitkens left a note on the radar museum guestbook, requesting information and assitance with an upcoming Cold War display at the USAF Museum.
In early October, 2000 Tom Page and I made the trip to Dayton, and visited with Terry, who is the Senior Curator of the museum, his boss, Maj. Gen.
Something that's bothered me since I began developing the radar museum was how we might preserve the memory of our service after we're gone.

At first it was assigned the manufacturer's serial no. 15171, due to duplication this was revised to 26616; it was delivered from the Douglas factories to the USAAF with tailnumber 43-49355, in Dec44.
With the 0 (for obsolete...) added to its tailnumber, it continued its servicelife bravely with the 437th MAW (Military Airlift Command) & 315th MAW.
Lockheed C-121C Super Constellation, displayed with USAF serial 54-0153, however its original serial was 54-0180.

 Air Force Armament Museum - Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Florida
The Air Force Armament Museum is near the entrance of the Eglin Air Force Base's main gate on Hwy 85, between Shalimar (Fort Walton Beach area) and the Okaloosa County Regional Airport.
The museum is located on the right hand side of the road, just before the intersection of State Road 189!
They serve in all areas of the museum's activities including the information desk, work in the restoration department and in administrative capacities.

You may not be aware that all of our USAF aircraft are transferred to us by the USAF Museum in Dayton, Ohio.
As one of the steps we take in evaluating aircraft for aquisition, we investigate the collection of the Air Force to establish whether or not a particular aircraft is already in their extensive collection.
We hope that you and your organization will understand that the preservation of America's military aircraft is part of a nationwide museum team effort that includes, but is not limited to, NASM, the USAF Museum, the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Florida, and other air museums across the country.

S/N 57-0713 was formerly assigned to the local 302nd AW for the purpose of Aircraft Battle Damage Repair (ABDR) training and when it became excess to the 302nd's requirements and being in better physical condition than the Museum's 57-0575, it was exchanged with 57-0575.
The above T-33A (57-0713) was repainted to the Museum's standards in June of 2001.

The USAF evaluated it (as the F-110A "Spectre") for close air support, interdiction, and counter-air operations and, in 1962, approved a USAF version.
The first USAF pilot to score four combat victories with F-4s in SEA was then-Col. Robin Olds, a WW II ace.
The aircraft on actual display at the USAF Museum is the one in which Col. Olds, the aircraft commander, and Lt. Stephan B. Croker, the backseat pilot, scored two of those victories in a single day, May 20, 1967.

The museum will be giving out great USAF 60th anniversary items during the Air Force Heritage Week event.
I was able to tell my son some additional information about the WWII exhibits as I remembered some of the stories my Dad used to tell me. We want to return again as I know we did not see everything that was there when we visited more than 20 years ago.
The museum Public Affairs Division publishes blog entries based on their appeal to National Museum of the United States Air Force visitors.

 Aircraft: Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress, Return to Glory
It was kept in the inventory and continued to fly in the USAF long after most B-17s had been scrapped, but in 1956 it was flown to Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona (the "bone yard") and dropped from the USAF inventory.
The plane was reacquired by the USAF Museum and flown to the United States in January 1981 for display at the March AFB Museum.
Many of the Museum's volunteers and staff worked on the aircraft, but the on-going effort to complete the restoration is being done by a three man team, Micky Britt, Jerry Stoll and Jim Hendricks.

National Aviation Museums are always a treat to visit, the USAF Museum in Dayton, Ohio, is just such a location.
The museum is currently (October 2004) opening a new missile hangar (ICBM's stand upright, which is a little formidable) and seems to have completed the creation of their Cold War hangar.
The museum sits on land to the north east of the main airfield, and to the east of Dayton.
