The structure of the USASA National Select Teams Program begins at the State Association level, where men and women's teams are formed from all amateur and eligible players who wish to try-out for their respective National State Association Select Team.

The initial state qualifying rounds of the USASA National Cups (Men’s Open Cup and Men’s Amateur Cup) will begin no earlier than the weekend of October 15-16, 2005, and could continue through the weekend of December 3-4, 2005 (with any remaining games to be played as early as March 2006).
In accordance with the USASA National Cup policies, the home team will be responsible for securing a field for each match (and for all field permit fees).
Each player must be qualified according to the bylaws of USASA and must be properly registered and rostered with that team at least 7 days before any game in the competition in which the player may participate.

A qualifying round was added in 2005 to accommodate the expansion of the tournament by two teams to 42 from 40 due to the entrance of the two first-year Major League Soccer teams into the tournament.
Two teams each that qualified through the USASA and PDL will playoff for spots in the first round on June 15.
The teams playing in the qualifying round were selected by random draw after all of the USASA and PDL teams were grouped regionally.

The United States of America Snowboard Association (USASA) has announced it will host the 17th Annual USASA National Championship March 25- April 1, 2006 at Northstar-at-Tahoe in Truckee, Calif.
