 USCGC Healy
USCGC Healy is a new four-season, icebreaking Arctic research vessel with science facilities matching those on the large UNOLS vessels.
Healy was from its inception meant to be operated by the Coast Guard for the academic science community and together with the research and icebreaking capabilities these defined the vessel which was delivered by Avondale Industries to the Coast Guard in late 1999.
All parties agreed that the Healy's coring capabilities in open water over the aft A-frame were amply proven during warm water testing, so the emphasis on Leg 4 was on coring over the starboard, and in ice.

 TEA: Hindman- -- 6.18.2000
The Healy is the first icebreaker built since 1978, and is the first to be a true collaboration between the government, research scientists, and the ship building industry.
The USCGC Healy was named after Michael Healy who commanded the U.S. Revenue cutters Corwin and Bear during the late 1800's.
Research scientists have already submitted their proposals for the use of the Healy and are eagerly waiting for word, whether or not they will be included in the first official science cruise.

The USCGC Healy was delivered with two shipboard ADCPs installed: RDI BB-150 and BB-300, where the number is the nominal operating frequency in kHz.
On the Healy, however, the increase in the noise floor was almost imperceptible; the degradation in performance coincident with bubble layers under the transducer was almost entirely caused by absorption of the outgoing ping and the returning signal.
Several features are typical of data collected during the Healy trials: (1) In the top depth bin, the anomalous velocity in the direction of ship's motion in the top bin (in this case, northward and westward) are caused by ringing.
