USNS Elisha Kent Kane (T-AGS-27) was struck from the Naval Register on 14 March 2001 and sold under the Security Assistance Progrm to Turkey as of that date.
SILAS BENT was the model for the first of the newest and best of the Navy's oceanographic fleet.
SILAS BENT even journeyed as far west as the Mediterranean Sea during that time period for the turnover of crewing responsibilities from Military Sealift Command.

SILAS BENT is equipped with the latest in navigation, communication, and meteorological facilities and can conduct oceanographic surveys with both conventional devices and modern electronic instrumentation.
In addition, SILAS BENT is equipped with laboratories for electronic, chemical, biolgical, and geological purposes; a scientific office; survey control center; drafting room; photo-reproduction room; meteorological room; electronic and mechanical workshops; separate scientific chill and freeze spaces; and explosive and meteorological rocket magazines.
SILAS BENT is the first ship designed and delivered to the Navy for the primary purpose of conducting systematic multi-parameter surveys on a world-wide basis in support of Navy ASW/USW operations.

An example of data in the new MOODS format is file 260393.DOM, which contains XBT data collected aboard the USNS Silas Bent (AGS 26) during Exercise SHAREM 102A.
Figure 18 provides number, mean, standard deviation, and minimum and maximum values for each of 26 parameters; figure 19 shows the correlation between parameters.
These data are particularly helpful in determining oceanic variability with respect to naval operations and laboratory evaluations.

 AGOR Numeric List
She is pictured at the NavSource site surrounded by friends (wouldn't be surprised if they weren't toasting with bubbly) and possibly even fireworks (scuttling charges with three rockets?) -- unless there was a bit of an accident.
The ship was described as AGOR 26 for a period, including official documents and NOAA references.
I have a so far unproven suspicion that the vessel, built to AGOR 23 specifications, was assigned the designation AGOR 26 for administrative purposes during construction under Navy supervision for NOAA at Halter Marine's Moss Point shipyard where the others of the class had been built for Navy.

Prior to that time they may have be simply AG or retained another classification while doing survey work for long periods.
The DANFS publication date was shortly after the AGS-26 (Silas Bent) class became operational so there was not a lot of history to cover.
There is generally no DANFS coverage, excepting ships designated in the early years with high AGS numbers, beyond that class in the published version.
