Aaron Ward continued to serve with Atlantic Fleet until September, at which time she was transferred to the Pacific.
Aaron Ward resumed normal duty with the Battle Fleet in March 1921 and continued that duty until she was decommissioned on 17 June 1922 and berthed with the Reserve Fleet at San Diego, California.
On 9 September 1940, Aaron Ward was decommissioned at Halifax, Nova Scotia.

There is just something about the way it is sitting there, up-right, on the bottom with the gun turrets frozen in place with the guns raised etc. It is easy to imagine the crew had trying to defend their ship in it's final battle.
There were comments with the photos that claimed the divers had along with being great blokes for helping out the islanders had located the USS Aaron Ward and dived her.
At least two other groups later dived the Aaron Ward and also thought that they were the first to dive the wreck.
