  USS Albany (CA-123) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The fourth USS Albany (CA-123) was a United States Navy Oregon City-class heavy cruiser, later converted to the guided missile cruiser CG-10.
Albany continued to perform such duty until 11 September 1948 when she stood out of Chesapeake Bay for her first tour of duty with the American naval forces operating in the Mediterranean Sea, recently made a permanent establishment as the 6th Fleet.
Between 1976 and 1980, Albany was the flagship of the 6th Fleet, and homeported in Gaeta, Italy.

On June 14, 1847, Albany participated in another major operation of the war as she was part of a large expedition which crossed the bar of the Tabasco River and advanced upstream several miles, supporting Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry in his attack on the town of Tabasco.
On 10 October, the she put to sea to return to Home Squadron in the Gulf of Mexico and served along the Mexican coast on blockade duty again until March of 1848 when she was detached and sent to Venezuela to protect American citizens there during a highly volatile constitutional crisis in that country.
Pensions to the dependents of the officers and seamen lost in Albany were awarded by Act of Congress, effective April 18, 1855.After several months sailing among the islands of the West Indies and along the coast of Central America, she departed Aspinwall, Colombia (now Colon Panama), on September 29, 1854.

The contract to build her was awarded to Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in Newport News, Virginia on 29 November 1983 and her keel was laid down on 22 April 1985.
She was launched on 13 June 1987 sponsored by Nancy M. Kissinger, wife of Henry Kissinger, and was commissioned on 7 April 1990 with Commander Darl R. Anderson in command.

I believe the picture of the USS Garcia and the USS Albany will be of interest to the ships crew that were onboard between 1968 and 1970.
The USS Garcia was Dead In the Water and the USS Albany was the designated towing ship, but of course the exercise did not go as planned as you can see in the photo.
The other picture is a photo of my last cruise onboard the USS Garcia as we were pulling into Newport, RI from a Spring Board Cruise in 1970 and I sailed my white hat off the fantail for the last time.
