USS Anchorage (LSD-36) was a dock landing ship of the United States Navy.
Anchorage was awarded to Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi on 29 June 1965 and her keel was laid down on 13 March 1967.
In 1991, she served in Operation Desert Storm and later in 2000 she was used to assist the USS Cole (DDG-67) following her bombing in Yemen.

USS Tarawa, USS Denver and USS Mount Vernon relieved the USS Guam (LPH-9) ARG to continue the commitment to security and stability in the region.
USS Tarawa (LHA-1) left her berth Jan. 6, 2003 and headed west for a six-month deployment, amid the nation's continued preparations for the possibility of a conflict in the Arabian Gulf region.
USS Tarawa arrived off the coast of Kuwait in the North Arabian Gulf in late February of 2003, adding approximately 4,000 more Sailors and Marines to the rapidly growing American force in the region.

Anchorage, the oldest dock landing ship in the Navy, was decommissioned Oct. 1 at Naval Base San Diego.
USS Anchorage (LSD 36), the oldest dock landing ship in the Navy, was solemnly decommissioned and stricken from the active list after 34 years of service during a ceremony Oct. 1 at Naval Base San Diego.
Anchorage was called upon in 2000 to provide support for the crew of USS Cole (DDG 67) after a small boat laden with explosives blew up alongside the destroyer as it refueled in Aden, Yemen, tearing a hole in its side and killing 17 Sailors.

In 1991 during Operation Desert Storm, USS Anchorage controlled the largest offload of landing craft in support of combat operations, and earned he Navy Unit Citation and the South West Asia Service Medal (2 stars).
During that six-month deployment Anchorage disembarked Marines and supplies from Landing Force West during the opening stages of the war and later provided logistic support to U.S. forces stationed on captured offshore gas and oil platforms near the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr.

Comstock and Anchorage carried Marines from 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance and 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Division.
Comstock and Anchorage are returning ahead of the rest of ATF West to facilitate the decommissioning of Anchorage October 1, and to ready Comstock for a 2004 deployment with the USS Belleau Wood (LHA 3) Amphibious Ready Group.

The Anchor was given to the City from the decommissioned USS Anchorage (LSD36) a vessel that was the first and only naval vessel to be named for the City of Anchorage.
ERECTED BY: The Anchorage Veterans Affairs Commission worked with the Parks and Recreation Department of the Municipality to create a fitting spot for the anchor at the small boat harbor.
The anchor was formally turned over to the municipality on the 7th day of June 1992 and pursuant to the lease agreement the citizens of Anchorage were custodians and thereby responsible for the preservation of the anchor as a tribute to its years of service on board the U.S.S. Anchorage.

USS Cole (DDG 67) suffered severe damage October 12, 2000 in a bombing attack when the ship was in the port of Aden, Yemen, for a routine fuel stop.
USS Donald Cook (DDG 75)[?] and USS Hawes (FFG 53) made best speed to arrive in the vicinity of Aden that afternoon providing repair and logistical support.
Additionally USNS Catawba (T-AFT 168)[?], USS Camden (AOE 2)[?], USS Anchorage (LSD 36)[?], USS Duluth (LPD 6), and USS Tarawa (LHA 1) arrived in Aden some days later, providing watch relief crews, harbor security, damage control equipment, billeting, and food service for the crew of Cole.

- If you were wondering why there is a 'Constitution 2'; with there being no known ships with this name that precede 'Constitution Class', it's a conjectural thing, for I have named a ship 'USS Constitution' as being initially of the Federation Class -one of Starfleet's first Heavy Cruisers, from 2161 (see 'Conjectural Classes').
Only numbers like this will appear if the ship is named in a listing, anywhere throughout the fleet guides.
