  DANFS: USS Bagley (DD-386)
The third Bagley (DD-386) was launched 3 September 1936 by Norfolk Navy Yard: sponsored by Miss Bella Worth Bagley, sister of Ensign Bagley; commissioned 12 June 1937, Lieutenant Commander F. Morris in command; and reported to the Atlantic Squadron.
On 7 December 1941 Bagley was moored at Pearl Harbor and when the Japanese planes attacked, she opened fire immediately and assisted in the destruction of' several enemy airplanes.
Bagley returned to the United States in November 1945 and was decommissioned 14 June 1946.

The third USS Bagley, DD 386, was launched 3 September 1936 by Norfolk Navy Yard: sponsored by Miss Bella Worth Bagley, sister of Ensign Bagley; commissioned 12 June 1937, Lieutenant Commander F. Morris in command; and reported to the Atlantic Squadron.
Attached to USS Winslow, TB 5, patrolling Cuba’s northern coast, Winslow left her blockade station and, with revenue cutter Hudson, proceeded to Cardenas Bay to replenish her coal bunkers, where she was engaged by a Spanish steamer and shore batteries, 11 May 1898.
Bagley, who had been helping to direct the warship's maneuvers by carrying instructions from the deck to the base of the engine room ladder.

Bagley transited the canal on the 24th, stopped at Havana, Cuba, between 28 September and 2 October, and ended her shakedown cruise at Norfolk on the 4th.
Bagley turned sharply to the left to bring the starboard torpedo tubes to bear on the Japanese warships looming out of the darkness but, as the "fish" were not armed in time, she continued her turn and fired four torpedoes to the northwest from number two port mount.
Bagley's only part in the ensuing Battle for Leyte Gulf was to join the ad hoc cruiser-destroyer group dispatched in futile pursuit of the retreating flattops, mere decoys with only half their air component on board.

Bagley operated along the east coast until going into reserve at Norfolk Navy Yard 19 February 1903.
Recommissioned 29 March 1917 Bagley was fitted out at New York and attached to the Harbor Entrance Patrol 3d Naval District.
Operating from the Marine Base, Brooklyn, N. Y., her duties of patrolling, scouting ahead of the convoys leaving harbor, observation, and escorting were continuous until she was demobilized in 1919.

USS Ward (DD-139) was a 1247-ton Wickes-class destroyer in the United States Navy during World War I, later APD-16 in World War II.
Ward was named in honor of Commander James H. Ward, USN, (1806-1861), the first U.S. Navy officer to be killed in action during the American Civil War.
When the resulting fires could not be controlled, Ward's crew was ordered to abandon ship and she was sunk by gunfire from USS O'Brien (DD-725), whose Commanding Officer, William W. Outerbridge, had been in command of Ward during her action off Pearl Harbor three years before.

On December 7, 1941 the USS Bagley was moored at the Navy Yard Pearl Harbor, T.H., (Berth B22) for restricted availability (repairs to starboard bilge keel).
The torpedo was dropped in the lumber pile on the dock and the plane is believed to have crashed on the dock.
The sixth plane shot down by the Bagley was one of the dive bombers, a part of the second phase, occurring after the torpedo attack.
