Four vessels of the United States Navy have been named USS Biddle, in honor of Captain Nicholas Biddle, a hero of the Continental Navy.
The second Biddle (DD-151) was a destroyer commissioned 1918 and in use until 1945.
The third Biddle (DDG-5) was a guided missile destroyer commissioned in 1962 and renamed Claude V. Ricketts in 1964.

USS Biddle (CG-34), also DLG-34, named for Captain Nicholas Biddle of the Continental Navy, was a Belknap-class guided missile cruiser of the United States Navy.
Biddle was laid down by the Bath Iron Works Corporation at Bath, Maine on 9 December 1963, launched on 2 July 1965 and commissioned on 21 January 1967.
The cruiser was decommissioned and stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 30 November 1993 and sold for scrap to Metro Marine Corporation of Philadelphia on 4 December 2000.

As Biddle steamed toward Norfolk, we encountered a nor’easterner and the worst seas of the cruise.
Biddle saw more action when she returned to the Tonkin Gulf for the third tour, again when she was a part of the group that hit Libya, and finally, during the Gulf War.
The Biddle began turning sharply, and on the weapons circuit, I heard the weapons officer tell the 5 inch crew that there were gun boats approaching the ship, and to swing the gun in that general direction.

USS BIDDLE, Yankee Station --Although he works hunched over a radar screen in the darkened war room aboard this destroyer in the Gulf of Tonkin, Radarman 1.C. Gerald Kronvall has played as important a role in downing MIGs over North Vietnam as the pilots who fly the missions.
Only six days after the Biddle joined 7th Fleet operations in the gulf Kronvall, a native of Pasadena, Tex., directed Navy aircraft to score their third and fourth successful intercepts of Communist jets.
On May 17 the Biddle's first full day on Yankee Station, the radarman guided two Navy fighters from the carrier USS Midway into an intercept position that resulted in the destruction of two MIG 19s approximately 30 miles northeast of Hanoi, when they threatened a bombing mission over the north.

This is my first ship, the USS Moinester, a Knox class frigate, it's primary mission was Anti-Submarine Warfare, and she did it well.
Awesome platform, obtained my Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification on this ship, and I'd have done 20 years alone on this one, but because she was the last of the Mk 26 missle ships, she was decommisioned on Sept 23, 1999, after I had spent only a year onboard.
She is a fine old ship, with a good crew, has state of the art communications and command and control capabilities, and has a compliment of around 750 crew and staff.

The two ships were joined on 14 April by USS Glennon (DD-840) from Charleston, South Carolina and USS Sarsfield (DD-839) from Mayport, Florida.
