The Japanese submarine RO-112 is sunk by the submarine USS Batfish (SS-310) in the Philippines.
The destroyer USS Pritchett (DD-561) is damaged by horizontal bomber; the destroyer escort USS Foreman (DE-633) by dive bomber; and the attack transports USS Chilton (APA-38), USS Henrico (APA-45), USS Goodhue (APA-107) and USS Telfair (APA-210) and LST 599 are damaged by suicide plane, all in the Okinawa area.
The battleship USS Colorado (BB-45) is damaged by an explosion, the destroyer USS Ammen (DD-527) by a horizontal bomber and the submarine chaser SC-737 by grounding, all in the Okinawa area.

 USN Ships--USS Biloxi (CL-80)
USS Biloxi, a 10,000-ton Cleveland class light cruiser built at Newport News, Virginia, was commissioned at the end of August 1943.
USS Biloxi was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register in September 1961 and sold for scrapping in March 1962.
USS Portland (CA-33) is in the left background, also taking part in the bombardment.

USS Arizona (BB-39), moored directly astern of Tennessee, was undergoing a period of upkeep from the repair ship USS Vestal (AR- 4), berthed alongside her.
On 1 February, Tennessee and Colorado, with Mobile and USS Louisville (CA 25), were back in their assigned area to the eastward and commenced firing at 0708.

There were several plane attacks and the USS GILMER with ComUDTTac aboard (Captain Hanlon) was hit by a crashing plane with several casualties.
On the night of April 2, the old converted four piper, USS DICKERSON (APD 21), was smashed by a Japanese Betty bomber which suicided into her bridge- The USS BUNCH was the nearest ship to the scene and proceeded with rescue and salvage operations.
On the twenty-sixth the USS BUNCH with her "passengers" left Okinawa for the rear areas.

April 24 - The destroyer escort USS Frederick C. Davis (DE-136) is sunk by a submarine torpedo in the Atlantic.
USS Callaghan is the last Allied vessel to be sunk by a suicide plane.

 Naval History USS Biloxi CL-80
Biloxi (CI~80) was launched 23 February 1943 by Newport NewY F3hipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Newport News, Va.; sponsored by Mrs.
On 18 May 1946 she was placed in commission in reserve at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and on 29 October 1946 went out of commission in reserve.
Biloxi received nine battle stars for her service in the Pacific during World War II.

The USS Vulcan Collection was established to preserve the long record of repair support logged by the men and women who have served aboard the Atlantic Fleet's oldest active ship (second in the entire Navy) over the years.
USS Vulcan (AR-5) is the third U.S. Navy vessel to bear the name of the Roman god of fire, metalworking, and craftsmanship.
Vulcan again performed rescue duties in March 1964 when she came to the aid of USS Antares (AKS-33) and helped extinguish an uncontrolled fire that was raging in the supply ship's No. 3 hold.

In mid-November, 1944, the USS Rall (DE304) had just returned to Ulithi Atoll after escorting the fleet oiler group in the area west the Philippines.
At 0645, the USS Biloxi (CL80), a Light Cruiser reported to us by blinker light that there was a swirl in the water near us.
The Biloxi and our sister ship, the USS Halloran (DE 305), launched their whaleboats in an attempt to recover the bodies.

During World War II he was attached to the submarine SS-30 and USS Kraken (SS-370) and made a total of ten war patrols in the Aleutian Islands and in the Southwest Pacific.
From 1952 to 1954 he was executive officer of USS ZELLARS (DD-777); and from 1954 to 1956, operations officer on the staff of Commander Training Command, U.S. Atlantic Fleet.
He served in the USS ENDICOTT (DMS-35) after receiving his commission from July 1950 to October 1952, during which time the ENDICOTT was engaged in heavy shore bombardment and mine sweeping operations in Korean waters.

I have found a cruise book from the 1936 maneuvers of the USS Louisville which he was assigned and an all fl sailor basic training photograph from Norfolk when he graduated from basic training.
I am looking for any one who was on the USS Alberio or Acicia during WW2 my grand father was on the ship and is looking for his shipmates.
I came aboard the USS Macon in Oct. 1947 and was there for abbout 15 months I was on the boxing team during that time.Love to hear from anyone that was a shipmate.

GULF OF MEXICO – The multi-purpose amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) began service Tuesday night and continued on Wednesday as the Maritime Disaster Service Coordinator for the U.S. Navy's role in the Hurricane Katrina search and rescue efforts in the immediate New Orleans area.
Embarked helicopter squadrons have moved over 200 stranded personnel in two days of flying.

 The Lucky Lou
I received a quick education on the invasion of Okinawa, when I was lucky to acquire the handwritten diary of the radio-operator aboard USS Density, a minesweeper that was heavily involved in the Okinawa battle, especially the fierce battle on April 6, 1945.
I just acquired 40 letters writtend by a seaman, Lewis E. Gammon, aboard USS Biloxi, which may have played a part in the same battle.
I was an electrician 3rd class on the USS St Louis from September of '42 until November of '45.

A Cleveland-class light cruiser, in 1944 she was primarily assigned to screen the carrier striking forces during their frequent attacks on Japanese-held islands and in the battles of the Philippine Sea in June 1944 and Leyte Gulf in October.
