 USS Barracuda (SSK-1) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
USS Barracuda (SSK-1), the lead ship of her class, was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for the barracuda, a voracious, pike-like fish.
Her keel was laid down on 1 July 1949 by the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporation in Groton, Connecticut.
Barracuda was redesignated SST-3 on 3 July 1959 and decommissioned on 15 August 1959.

USS FLOYD B. The Tortuga participated in Operation Dominic in 1962 which was a 36-detonation atmospheric nuclear test series.
On 3 January 1970, Tortuga got underway for the Inactivation Facility at Mare Island, where she was decommissioned on 26 January 1970.
Transferred to the temporary custody of the Maritime Administration (MARAD) on 6 October 1970, the ship was berthed at Suisun Bay, Calif., where she was later placed in permanent custody of MARAD on 1 September 1971.
