 USS Boxer SAR swimmers describe harrowing rescue at sea
A Boxer crewmember was used as a translator for the eight Chinese and Taiwanese fishermen during their six-day stay on Boxer after the they were rescued by the San Diego-based multi-purpose amphibious assault ship Aug. 26.
Boxer personnel picked up the distress call and the San Diego-based amphibious assault ship was dispatched to attempt a rescue of the eight mariners.
Boxer's SAR swimmers continued to transfer the fishermen from the life raft to the rescue boat and the helicopter, and were able to transport all eight crewmembers to Boxer without harm.
