In 1917, the USS BUFFALO transported a special United States diplomatic mission to Russia and upon her return was converted to serve as a destroyer tender.
Among the first in Buffalo’s heritage are the windshield wiper, the grain elevator, parachutes, the cardiac pacemaker, soft contact lenses, the motorcycle, and, of course, "Buffalo wings." The City of Buffalo has grown from a frontier town to a mature metropolis rich with history and culture.

On January 6th, 2003 FReeper bkwells (Brian Wells), Senior Chief aboard the USS Tarawa LHA-1, posted a thread on FR telling everyone that he was about to be shipped out and I took note of it.
Led by the flag ship USS Tarawa (LHA 1), the ships in the second row from bottom to top are USS Saipan (LHA 2) and USS Kearsarge (LHD 3); and the third row ships are USS Boxer (LHD 4), USS Bataan (LHD 5) and USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6).
This was a flag Snippy had sent to the crew, they had hoisted and flown the flag from the bridge of the USS Tarawa when they crossed the Equator and the International Dateline.
