USS Bunker Hill (CG-52) is a Ticonderoga class guided missile cruiser laid down by Litton-Ingalls Shipbuilding Corporation at Pascagoula, Mississippi on January 11, 1984, launched on March 11, 1985 and commissioned on September 20, 1986.
Bunker Hill made her first deployment in July 1987, nearly one year ahead of schedule during which she provided an anti-air warfare umbrella inside the Persian Gulf for Missouri and other US flagged tankers and ships transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.
Bunker Hill made a historical visit to the Russian city Vladivostok in 1993, and then one year later she made a port visit to Qingdao in the People's Republic of China.

Bunker Hill continued to do battle and her planes aided in sinking one Japanese carrier and destroying a part of the 476 Japanese aircraft that were downed.
During the remaining months of World War II Bunker Hill participated in the Iwo Jima operation and the 5th Fleet raids against Honshu and the Nasei Shoto (15 February-4 March); and the 5th and 3d Fleet raids in support of the Okinawa operation.
Bunker Hill's designation was changed from CV-17 to CVA-17 on 1 October 1952 and from CVA-17 to CVS-17 on 8 August 1953.

USS Bunker Hill, a 27,100-ton Essex class aircraft carrier built at Quincy, Massachusetts, was commissioned in May 1943.
Air attacks on Japanese bases throughout the Central Pacific, and support for landings at Hollandia, New Guinea, followed in March, April and May. In June, Bunker Hill was part of the fast carrier forces that covered the invasion of Saipan and defeated the Japanese Mobile Fleet in the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) is near-missed by a Japanese bomb, during the air attacks of 19 June 1944.

Bunker Hill arrived and launched its rigid inflatable boat with a boarding team to investigate.
Following the rescue, Bunker Hill personnel removed all remaining personal gear from the canoe and broke it up so it would not remain a navigation hazard.
