The third USS Charleston (C-22) (later CA-19) was a United States Navy St.
Charleston was stripped down to the waterline and then sold to the Powell River Company, Ltd. On 25 October 1930, the ship was towed to Powell River, British Columbia, Canada, to serve as a floating breakwater for a large logging mill.
In 1961, heavy weather caused the Charleston to partially flood, and her hull was towed to Kelsey Bay, on the north coast of Vancouver Island.

The third Charleston (C-22), a protected cruiser, was launched 23 January 1904 by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Newport News, VA.; sponsored by Miss H. Rhett, and commissioned 17 October 1905 Captain H. Winslow in command.
Charleston cruised to South American ports in the summer of 1906 with Secretary of State Elihu Root on board for good-will visits, and after disembarking the official party at Panama in September, returned to the west coast for overhaul.
Charleston sailed from Philadelphia for the west coast 23 July 1919, reaching Bremerton, Wash., 24 August.

The USS Charleston was launched February 26, 1936 by the Charleston Navy Yard, and was decommissioned May 10, 1946.
The illustration shown on this page is an artist's rendition of the USS Charleston PG-51 using its four six-inch cannons to bombard Attu Island in the Aleutians in May of 1943 while under attack from Japanese torpedo bombers, one of which is shown launching a torpedo at the ship.

Royce was in the Navy and served on the USS Charleston from August of 1918 to January of 1919.
On October 25, 1930 the hulk of the Charleston stripped to her waterline was towed to the log pond and was the first ship to take her place standing guard at the log pond.

She was launched 23 January 1904 by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Newport News, Virginia, sponsored by Miss H. Rhett, and commissioned 17 October 1905, Captain H. Winslow in command.
In September and October 1918, she made two convoy escort voyages to Nova Scotia, then joined the cruiser and transport force, with which she made five voyages to France carrying occupation troops overseas and returning with combat veterans.
Here she was placed in reduced commission until late in 1920, when she arrived in San Diego to serve as administrative flagship for Commander, Destroyer Squadrons, Pacific Fleet.

The first Charleston was a galley mounting one 24-pounder gun, identical to Mars (length 52 ft, breadth 15 ft, depth 5.1 ft, complement 28).
She was built at Charleston in 1798, commanded by "Captain-of-a-Galley" James Payne, and used to defend the coast of South Carolina during the Quasi-War with France.
The third Charleston (C-22) was a protected cruiser that served from 1905 to 1923.

The USS CHARLESTON, a protected cruiser, was sent to the Far East after the outbreak of the war, convoying transports containing 2,500 troops to reinforce Commodore Dewey's Asiatic Squadron and to begin the land campaign in the Philippines.
In addition, the CHARLESTON and her charges carried a new supply of ammunition for Dewey's understocked magazines; a new gun to replace one of the BALTIMORE's, which had been damaged; and sixty-seven additional navy crewmen.
As the CHARLESTON and her small squadron approached, there was concern and speculation among the crews of Dewey's ship as they did not know if it was an American or a Spanish squadron that was approaching.

 USS ASSURANCE-A Salute to the Minesweeper USS ASSURANCE(MSO-521)
Assurance sailed to Charleston, S.C., on 11 January 1967 for interim overhaul and returned to her home port on 11 March to commence type training.
She sailed back to Charleston on 5 July to provide services to the naval mine warfare school and then briefly visited Panama City before returning to Charleston for overhaul.
The minesweeper began 1976 in upkeep at Charleston and operated in the Jacksonville, Fla., area from 13 to 26 March.

USS Patapsco, a 1335-ton Passaic class Union Navy monitor built at Wilmington, Delaware, was commissioned in early January 1863.
Remaining off South Carolina and Georgia during much of 1864 and into 1865, the monitor, or her boat crews, took part in a reconnaissance of the Wilmington River, Georgia, in January 1864 and helped capture or destroy enemy sailing vessels in February and November of that year.
On 14 January 1865, while participating in obstruction clearance operations in Charleston Harbor, USS Patapsco struck a Confederate mine and sank in the channel off Fort Moultrie in 1865.

Initially laid down as AKA 113 but redesignated LKA 113 on January 1, 1969, the USS CHARLESTON was transfered to the Naval Reserve Force in the early 1980s, but returned to the active fleet shortly afterwards because of the need for additional sealift capacity.

Marcus was transfered to the Charleston, and ended up staying on board until early 2375, when he was transfered to the USS Cyrex as the Department head of Stellar Cartographer, and as the Second Officer of the steamrunner-class vessel as well.

 USS VENTURE-A Salute to the Minesweeper USS VENTURE(MSO-496)
Although her home port was changed from Charleston, S.C. to Panama City, Florida January 1st, 1959, the minesweeper embarked upon her first Mediterranean cruise from the former port on January 9, 1959 as the flagship of Mine Division (MinDiv) 81.
On August 3, 1959, the minesweeper departed Charleston, bound finally for Panama City, Fla., her new home port, and became engaged in routine services to the Navy's Mine Defense Laboratory on various projects, until the end of the year.
She entered Jacksonville Shipyard at Charleston on 1 September and remained through the middle of November to receive a prototype FRAM conversion to her fantail and minesweeping equipment; this restored to her a full minesweeping capability.

The USS ODAX (SS-484) was commissioned on 11 July 1945 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and was assigned to Submarine Squadron FOUR in Key West, Florida, for peacetime operations and training.
ODAX then returned to Charleston and operated locally until late July 1966, when she proceeded to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and provided services to the Fleet Training Group for a period of 6 weeks.
