The Rhaetia was purchased by the U.S. Navy in 1898 and became the USS Cassius, which was later sold to the Army to become the transport Sumner.
Included are payroll vouchers for the Washington Navy Yard and Naval Station, May 1881-January 1882, and orders issued by higher commands relating to the pay of officers, enlisted personnel, and civilians (including appointments and transfers), July 1861-December 1863, September 1871-September 1874, and April-December 1881, with gaps.
