USS Badoeng Strait (CVE-116) was an Commencement Bay class escort carrier of the United States Navy during the Korean War.
She was named after the Badung Strait, located between the Indonesian islands of Bali and Nusa Besar, which was the site of a World War II battle in February 1942, between American–Netherlands and Japanese naval forces.
San Alberto Bay was renamed Badoeng Strait on 6 November 1943; launched 15 February 1945 by Todd-Pacific Shipyards, Inc., Tacoma, Washington; sponsored by Mrs.

CVE 106 was the first Carrier to Have a Complete Marine Air Group including a complete aircraft service unit.
However, CVE 105 was the first ship of this new class and not only would the Navy Crew have to be trained, the Marines and the Marine Pilots would also have to be trained which was a great time factor.
CVE 106 was scheduled to be retained by the Navy and rebuilt for these purposes in 1957.

These carriers were smaller than their counterparts in the Commencement Bay class - they were 65 feet shorter and had displacements that were more than 1,000 tons less than those of the larger CVEs - but they were sufficient for the Marine Corps' immediate needs.
Thetis Bay was redesignated CVHA 1 in July 1955 and was recommissioned one year later, on 20 July 1956.
Able to carry 20 HRS helicopters and 940 troops, Thetis Bay proved to be more a temporary expedient than a final solution to the sea services' amphibious assault challenge.

Jeeps and their crews also provided fighter and close air support for amphibious landings, and served as aircraft transports as the tempo of the carrier war in the Pacific mounted to a crescendo.
The first CVE was USS Long Island (CVE 1), converted from a Maritime Commission freighter.
