 USS Coral Sea (CV 43)
USS CORAL SEA trained pilots in carrier operations off the Virginia Capes and Mayport, Fla., and in April 1953 she embarked the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives for a three-day cruise.
USS CORAL SEA returned to the Mediterranean from 7 July to 20 December 1954, and during this tour was visited by Generalissimo Franco as she lay off Valencia, Spain.
USS CORAL SEA relieved MIDWAY in the northern part of the Arabian Sea on 5 February 1980 in connection with the continuing hostage crisis in Iran.

 Coral Sea
Coral Sea sailed from Norfolk 7 June 1948 for a midshipmen cruise to the Mediterranean and Caribbean, and returned to Norfolk 11 August.
Coral Sea returned to the Mediterranean from 7 July to 20 December 1954, and during this tour was visited by Generalissimo Franco as she lay off Valencia, Spain.
Coral Sea was decommissioned for conversion 24 May 1957, and upon completion was recommissioned 25 January 1960 to rejoin the Fleet.

On 28 December, CORAL SEA anchored at Pearl Harbor and began preparations for the impending assault on Kwajalein.
CORAL SEA and her escorts retired to Eniwetok on 28 June but returned to Saipan on 4 July.

Ultimately, Coral Sea was ordered back to the United States for a much needed overhaul, and the carrier sailed on 23 July.

USS Anzio is ready to conduct prompt, sustained combat operations at sea in support of carrier battle groups, surface action groups, amphibious assault groups and as a traditional maritime interdiction force.

Assigned to the newly constructed USS Liscome Bay (CVE-56) in the spring of 1943, Miller was on board that escort carrier during Operation Galvanic, the seizure of Makin and Tarawa Atolls in the Gilbert Islands.
The USS Wiltsie (DD-716), launched on 31 August 1945, was named for Irving D. Wiltsie, commander of the LISCOME BAY, the flagship of Rear Admiral Henry M. Mullinnix, during her final battle off Makin in the Gilbert Islands.

USS Liscome Bay (CVE-56), a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for Liscome Bay in Alaska's coast.
Her keel was laid down 9 December 1942 by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company of Vancouver, Washington, under a Maritime Commission contract.
The temporary task group built around Rear Admiral H.M. Mullinnix's three escorts, Liscome Bay, Coral Sea (CVE-57) and Corregidor (CVE-58) commanded by Rear Admiral Robert M. Griffin in New Mexico (BB-40) was steaming 20 miles southwest of Butaritari Island at 15 knots.

On 22 December 1943 all squadron aircraft, equipment and personnel were embarked aboard USS Coral Sea (CVE 57) for conveyance to Naval Air Station NAS Kaneohe, Hawaii.
The first elements of squadron personnel boarded USS Suisun (AVP 53) for return to the continental United States on 12 January 1948.
Combat patrols were flown over the Yellow Sea and Sea of Japan from bases in the north of Japan.

Training was completed by mid-November, and on 5 December the squadron flew to Alameda for embarkation in the USS Coral Sea (CVE-57) departing on the 22nd of December for Hawaii.
Upon arrival on December 28th, the squadron reported to CFAW-2 at Kaneohe and on January 11th was assigned the Midway patrol with six aircraft and nine crews.
He was also a Pearl Harbor survivor, having been assigned as the pilot of an observation plane on the battleship USS West Virginia at the time of the Japanese attack.

 USS Liscome Bay
The loss of these ships, tragic and costly in lives as they were, did not compare to the shock that went through America's CVE crews when that first escort carrier was sunk in November 1943.
Her primary functions were to serve as a convoy escort, to provide aircraft for close air support during amphibious landing operations, and to ferry aircraft to naval bases and fleet carriers at sea.
Others, like the aerology crew, had served on board the aircraft carrier USS Wasp (CV-7) before she was sunk in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine in September 1942.
