  USS Corregidor (CVE-58) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
USS Corregidor (CVE-58) was laid down as Auguilla Bay (AVG-58) was reclassified ACV-58, 20 August 1942 and launched as Corregidor on 12 May 1943 by Kaiser Co., Inc., Vancouver, Washington, under a Maritime Commission contract; sponsored by Mrs.
Corregidor was reclassified CVU-58 on 12 June 1955.
When the Lebanon crisis broke in the summer of 1958, Corregidor was at Brindisi, Italy, and immediately lifted two reconnaissance planes of the 24th Infantry, USA, and 10 helicopters to support the landings in Lebanon.

USS Liscome Bay (CVE-56), a Casablanca-class escort aircraft carrier was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for Liscome Bay in Alaska's coast.
Her keel was laid down 9 December 1942 by Kaiser Shipbuilding Company of Vancouver, Washington, under a Maritime Commission contract.
The temporary task group built around Rear Admiral H.M. Mullinnix's three escorts, Liscome Bay, Coral Sea (CVE-57) and Corregidor (CVE-58) commanded by Rear Admiral Robert M. Griffin in New Mexico (BB-40) was steaming 20 miles southwest of Butaritari Island at 15 knots.

Robert W. Bockins; reclassified CVE 61 on 15 July 1943; acquired by the Navy 5 October 1943; and commissioned the same day at Astoria, Oreg., Capt. Boynton L. Braun in command.
Admiral Stump transferred his flag to CORREGIDOR (CVE 58) 6 May, and the following day, MANILA BAY sailed for overhaul at Pearl Harbor where she arrived 18 May. After loading 37 Army P-47 fighters, MANILA BAY sailed 5 June for the Marianas.

In 1940 he was assigned to Fighting Squadron Six (VF-6), based on USS Enterprise (CV-6), and assumed command of that squadron in April 1941.
During the Battle of Midway, while leading his air group's scout bombers on 4 June 1942, he made the critical tactical decision that led to the destruction of the Japanese aircraft carriers Kaga and Akagi, thus making a vital contribution to the outcome of that pivotal battle.
USS McClusky (FFG-41) was named in his honor.

 VMFA-451 "Warlords" - Squadron History
On 20 October, the "Warlords" craned their Furys on board USS Corregidor (CVE-58), along with the "Death Angels" of VMF-235, to deploy to NAF Atsugi, Japan.
The "Warlords" were on station at the end of the Taiwan Straits crisis and returned with their FJ-4s to El Toro in November 1959 after brief carrier qualifications on board USS Lexington (CVA-16).
In July 1976, the squadron was slated to return to their former home, USS Forrestal, with their Phantoms painted in bicentennial markings and sporting CVW-17’s AA tailcode.
