For the remainder of the war, Dale served in the frigates Alliance and Trumbull, and was Commanding Officer of the privateer Queen of France.
In 1801 Captain Dale was given command of a U.S. Navy squadron and sent to the Mediterranean Sea to confront the piratical states along the North African coast.
Dale spent the rest of his life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was a prominent citizen and was active in local defense efforts during the War of 1812.

USS Dale, a 1190-ton Clemson class destroyer, was built at Squantum, Massachusetts as part of the Navy's World War I ship construction effort.
Decommissioned at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in May 1930, USS Dale was sold for scrapping in January 1931.
USS Dale was named in honor of Commodore Richard Dale (1756-1826), who served in the Continental Navy during the Revolutionary War and in the United States Navy in the late 1790s and early 1800s.

 SS Masaya (Formerly USS Dale DD-290)
The vessel was built by the fore river shipbuilding corporation, Quincy, MA.The shipyard was later to become the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Company, and the Masaya was christened there on the 16th February 1920 as the USS Dale DD 290.
After 10 years of service The Dale was decommissioned on the 1st May 1930 and sold to the standard fruit company of New Orleans and converted to banana carriers.
It was after this conversion she was renamed Masaya and used as a fast fruit carrier between New Orleans and Central America where her shallow draft enabled her to go up rivers to plantations thus eliminating rail transportation.

He transfered to the USS CHAUNCEY DD667 in 1944, and though she was never hit by a Kamikaze, she had a couple of close calls.
I have always had an interest in military history, and the Okinawa campaign in particular, as the second USS LUCE (DD-522) was sunk by Kamikazes at 0810 04MAY45, just hours after the AARON WARD was attacked, as she was being towed to Kerama Retto.
The USS Aaron Ward is and aways will be a part of all our lives as long as we are here to remember.

I went aboard the U.S.S. Providence in Oct of 1966 and stayed on her untill I was discharged from the Navy in Feb. 1970.
Upon transferred on the Commodore in 1971, I was re-assigned to the USS Josephus Daniels (DLG-27) as the Captain's and Commodore's steward.
From there I wwent to the USS Conyngham DDG-17 Spent the rest of my time there also attended Morse Code School while on Board the Conyngham I was on board the Conyngham when she went to Bath Ma.

I'm not sure, it may be decommisioned, or it may be assigned to the next carrier, the USS George H. Bush.
I think you have a point however on the cost issue, whether it is fairly assessing the relative thoroughness of maintenance...the way the USS America (retired) and JFK and now Kitty Hawk are being neglected.
I was a crew member on USS Kitty Hawk(CV63)(USS Kennedy CV-67 sister ship)from 8/97 to 6/99 and experienced 1st hand what "the 911 carrier" means.

 The Saga of S.S. Masaya
She was Originally christened on 16 February 1920 as the USS Dale DD-290.
After many years of service the Dale was decommissioned on 1 May 1930 and stricken from the rolls of the U.S. Navy on 22 October 1930.
These are two of the 58 destroyers sold by the Government in order to reduce the 293,000 tons in the destroyer category to the maximum 150,000 tons allowed by the London Naval Treaty.

Subject: WANTED: USS New Jersey Reference Material Hi, I was unfortunately unable to get my hands on the probably best single reference for the Big J: USS New Jersey: An Illustrated History, which was supposed to be my main reference building the Big J after 1982 refit.
All I have at the moment is the deck and antenna arrangement plans Dale kindly sent.
There is a book USS New Jersey, Hard Cover, published 1997, ISBN 1563112566, ~$50, but I have no knoledge if this book worth buying as I don't know if there are any plans/drawings or decent photos included.
