USS Davenport (PF-69), a Tacoma-class frigate, was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for Davenport, Iowa.
Davenport (PF-69), originally classified as PG-177, was launched on 8 December 1943 by Leathem D. Smith Shipbuilding Company of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, under a Maritime Commission contract, sponsored by Mrs.
Davenport stood out from Charleston on 26 June 1945, and on 1 July took station off Argentia, Newfoundland to report meteorological data.

Davenport was underway at 0917 on 25 Feb 1945 for a 28 hour cruise in the Gulf of Mexico.
The USS Davenport (PF-69) departed Galveston at 0843 on Wednesday, 28 Feb 1945, underway for Guantanamo Bay, attached to the DD-DE Shakedown Group, Cdr.
Davenport also performed plane guard duties for the USS Bon Homme Richard (CV-31) (which had departed Norfolk on 19 March, heading for duty in the Pacific Fleet via the Panama Canal).

Davenport (PF-69) was launched 8 December 1943 by Leathem D. Smith Shipbuilding Co., Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, under a Maritime Commission contract.
She was then placed out of service for additional work a week later and was commissioned in full 15 February 1945 under the command of CDR H. Stolfi, USCG.
The frigate had encountered some very rough weather on her last patrol and was in need of extensive repairs.

According to the WW II Convoy Routing Code, "UGS" stood for "United States to Mediterranean, Slow" and this convoy's average speed was 10 knots, while the Davenport patroled around it at an average of 14 knots.
Davenport and Brunswick joined their sistership USS Uniontown the destroyer USS Davison and the CTG 60.2 convoy flagship the destroyer USS Selfridge in escorting Convoy UGS-89 to Oran, Algeria.

Subject: PF Info and general kit observations I would like to third the request for more PF info, though in my case I'm interested in paint schemes.
Subject: Testors USS America I am wondering if the Testor's USS America is an accurate model or just a copy of the Testor's USS Kitty Hawk (although she is a sister ship, they have many differences).
The sister ship, USS Tennessee BB-43 is on its way to the casters as you read this.

My father, Garfield Thompson served on DE323 (U.S.S. He was part of the original crew and served on convoy duty across to North Africa in 1944.
My duty stations were the USS General C. Muir, AP-142 and the USS General W. Richardson, AP-118 and my final duty station was in the Office of the Commander, 8th Coast Guard District, Custom House, 423 Canal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana.
My dad, Charles Sabbides was on the USS Tampa between 1942 and 1945 in the North Atlantic.
