Doyen was launched 26 July 1919 by Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation, Squantum, Massachusetts; sponsored by Miss F. Doyen, daughter of Brigadier General Doyen; and commissioned 17 December 1919, Commander J. Klein, Jr., in command.
Doyen was recommissioned 26 September 1923 and resumed a schedule of training and tactical exercises along the west coast, in the Panama Canal Zone, and the Hawaiian Islands.
Doyen was decommissioned 25 February 1930 and scrapped 20 December 1930 in accordance with the London Naval Treaty for the limitation of naval armaments.

The first USS Melvin (DD-335) was a Clemson-class destroyer in the United States Navy following World War I.
Melvin was laid down 15 September 1920 at the Union Plant, Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation, San Francisco, California; launched 11 April 1921; sponsored by Miss Laura L. McKinistry; and commissioned 31 May 1921, Lieutenant Commander Charles E. Rosendahl in command.
Struck from the Naval Vessel Register 3 November 1930, her materials were sold in the course of the next 2 years.

Charles A. Doyen, born in New Hampshire 3 September 1859, was a member of the Naval Academy class of 1881, later commissioned second lieutenant in the Marine Corps.
Doyen's contribution to these victories was recognized by the posthumous award of the Distinguished Service Medal.

 USN Ships--USS Henshaw (Destroyer # 278, later DD-278)
USS Henshaw, a 1109-ton Clemson class destroyer, was built at Squantum, Massachusetts, as part of the World War I ship construction program.
The destroyer was out of commission between June 1922 and September 1923, then returned to a routine of training and maneuvers in the Eastern Pacific, with a voyage to Hawaii in 1925 and occasional visits to the Caribbean for major fleet operations.
USS Henshaw decommissioned in March 1930 and was sold for scrapping in November of that year.

USS Moody, a 1190-ton Clemson class destroyer built at Squantum, Massachusetts, was commissioned in December 1919.
Though primarily serving in West Coast waters, she deployed to Hawaii in 1925 and 1928, visited Australia and New Zealand during the Battle Fleet's mid-1925 trans-Pacific cruise, and operated in the Caribbean and off the East Coast in 1927.
USS Moody was placed out of commission in June 1930 and stricken from the list of Naval vessels in November of that year.
