USS DULUTH held her shakedown cruise in the Chesapeake Bay area and on 25 October 1944 sailed for Trinidad, B.W.I., to complete her training.
The USS DULUTH was delegated another good-will mission over the fourth of July 1947, to represent the United States at Manila at the anniversary ceremonies of the Philippine's first year as an independent nation.
USS DULUTH also earned the Navy Occupation Service Medal, Pacific for the periods from 2 September to 9 October 1945; 25 January to 22 March 1946, 8 May to 11 May 1946; and from 10 October to 26 December 1947.

The USS Duluth (CL-87) was a United States Navy Cleveland-class light cruiser.
Severe structural damage to her bow suffered in a typhoon 5 June forced her to return to Guam for repairs, but she rejoined TF 38 on 21 July to screen during the final air strikes on the Japanese homeland which continued until the end of the war.
From 24 August 1945 until she entered Tokyo Bay 16 September, Duluth operated with TF 38 which was providing radar picket and combat air patrol for transport aircraft flying occupation forces into Japan.

Duluth (CL-87) was launched 13 January 1944 by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Portsmouth, VA.; sponsored by Mrs.
From 14 December 1944 to 2 March 1945 Duluth served as a training cruiser at Newport, R. After brief overhaul at Norfolk, she sailed 7 April for the Pacific, arriving at Pearl Harbor 29 April.
Based at San Pedro, Calif., Duluth served a tour of duty in the Far East between 3 January 1946 and 27 September, and on 24 February 1947 sailed for an extended visit at Pearl Harbor.

USS Topeka (CL-67) was laid down on 21 April 1943 by the Bethlehem Steel Co. Yard located at Quincy, Mass., launched on 19 August 1944, sponsored by Mrs.
On the night of the latter date, Topeka had another opportunity to strike the enemy directly when she joined Atlanta (CL-104), Duluth (CL-87), Oklahoma City, and the destroyers of DesRon 62 in an anti shipping sweep of the entrance to Sagami Nada near the sea approaches to Tokyo.
Early in 1957, Topeka was towed from San Francisco to the New York Naval Shipyard that she entered on 15 April to begin conversion to a guided missile cruiser.

The Force arrived in Pearl Harbor on March 11th and remained until the 24th when the Ingraham and Sumner moved to Lahaina Roads, Maui and anchored there overnight, returning to Pearl Harbor the next day.
This was followed by daily operations out of Pearl Harbor with visits to Maui and Hilo Bay, Hawaii until returning to sea on May 1st with Task Force 58 and the USS Antietam (CV-36) and USS Shangri-La (CV-38).
Davy Jones was received onboard on the 6th with all due honor and respect and all pollywogs were initiated into the Realm of the Deep on the 7th.
