	USS Essex (1799) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The first USS Essex of the United States Navy was a sailing frigate that participated in the Quasi-War with France and in the War of 1812, wherein she was captured by the British (1814).
		On 17 December 1799 she was presented to the United States and accepted by Captain Edward Preble.
		Essex was repaired and taken into the Royal Navy as HMS Essex, and in 1833 served as a prison ship at Kingston, Ireland.
