USS EVERETT F. The EVERETT F. LARSON (DD-830) was launched on 28 January at Bath, Maine, and commissioned on 6 April 1945.
The LARSON was off South Vietnam on 30 November for the first of ten gunfire support missions in the IV Corps area where her guns destroyed or damaged seventy-five structures, thirty-one bunkers, nineteen sampans, and two bridges and wounded two Vietcong.
The EVERETT F. LARSON was decommissioned on 30 October 1972, transferred to South Korea as the JEONG BUK, and struck from the U.S. Navy’s list on 2 June 1975.

Everett F. Larson sailed from Boston 1 August 1946 for the Pacific, and on 29 September arrived at Tokyo Bay.
Everett F. Larson’s last eastern Pacific operation prior to her 1960 deployment to the western Pacific was as a unit of the US First Fleet passing in review in the annual "Great White Fleet Review", in September 1960, in San Francisco Bay.

While supplying suppression fire for the task unit, USS EVERETT F. LARSON directed maximum gunfire into enemy coastal defense sites and, although exposed to continuous heavy hostile fire, remained on station until the striking force had cleared enemy gun range.
During naval gunfire support operations in South Vietnam, USS EVERETT F. succeeded in inflicting heavy damage as well as delivering accurate and destructive counterbattery fire into enemy gun emplacements.
The professionalism, esprit de corps, and teamwork displayed by the personnel of USS EVERETT F. LARSON were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

 USS William R. Rush DD 714 Gearing Class Destroyer Models
The Gearing Class Destroyer USS William R. Rush DD 714 was commissioned in 1945.
USS Rush was then transferred to the navy of the Republic of Korea and became ROKS Kang Won DD 922 operating with the South Korean Navy until 1979.
All 105 Gearing Class Destroyers from the USS Gearing DD 710 to the USS Meredith DD 890 are available in a multitude of configurations and sizes.

 DASH Memories
Commissioned April 6, 1945 and serving for 30 years, the Larson was subsequently stricken June 2, 1975, sold to South Korea on October 30, 1972, renamed Jeong Buk and as on 1998, she is still active in the South Korean Navy.
I served on the USS Buck (DD-761) from 10/68 - 10/71 and the majority of that time served was in the DASH crew as an ETR2.
We were often in company with the relatively new USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65), acting as her plane guard, being told to do our best when she'd crank it on, well beyond our flank speed, and speed away over the horizon.

At a Submarine Officer's Conference, attended by former ComSubPac Vice Admiral Charles A. Lockwood, it is decided to dispose of all captured Japanese submarines by sinking.
The I-402, with the HA-201 tied to her, is used for target practice by the USS EVERETT F. LARSON (DD-830) and other warships.
Later, she is scuttled 16 nautical miles off Kinai Island on bearing 090 just beyond the 100-fathom line at 32-37N, 129-17E.

Liberty on this cruise was enjoyed by the crew in P.I., Singapore, where we rebarrelled our guns at Sembowang Shipyard, there was a Soviet Destroyer in port, so security was tight, Kowshung, Taiwan, Yokuska, &Sasebo.
If we had only known,,,,The Larson returned to Long beach, and was decomissioned and sent to the South Korean Navy.
The "Last of The Six Guns" will live in my memory for the duration.
