USS Fahrion (FFG-22), fourteenth ship of the Oliver Hazard Perry class of guided-missile frigates, was named for Admiral Frank George Fahrion (1894–1970).
Ordered from Todd Pacific, Seattle, WA on 28 February 1977 as part of the FY77 program, Fahrion was laid down on 1 December 1978, launched on 24 August 1979, and commissioned on 16 January 1982.
Transferred to Egypt on 15 March 1998 as that nation's Sharm El-Sheik (F 901), she was formally decommissioned and stricken on 31 March 1998.

USS FAHRION was homeported in Mayport, FL, and after decommissioning the frigate was sold to Egypt where she was renamed SHARM EL SHEIKH.
The combination of the "V" and the stars is suggestive of the destroyer screens Admiral Fahrion led defending convoys in the Atlantic and conducting raids on the Gilbert Island in the Pacific.
At the close of World War II, Admiral Fahrion was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a third Legion of Merit for superbly organizing and directing the target and salvage units of the Joint Task Force One during "Operation Crossroads," the atomic bomb tests of July 1946 at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands.

The namesake of the decommissioned guided missile frigate USS Fahrion (FFG-22), Frank George Fahrion was born on April 17, 1894, in Pickens, West Virginia.
During World War II, Fahrion was the Destroyer Screen Commander for the “Yorktown” carrier task force in the early Central Pacific raids on the Gilbert Islands.
Fahrion made their home in La Jolla, California, where he died on January 16, 1970.

To prepare for this duty, Fall River sailed to San Pedro, California, where from February 16 to March 6 she was altered to provide flagship accommodations.

Following the Iraqi air-launched Exocet attack on the USS Stark (FFG-31) on 17 May 1987 it was decided to upgrade the (V)2 installation by adding a jammer codenamed "Sidekick".
The new variant was later designated SLQ-32(V)5, and to date a number of (V)2s have been brought to the new standard, including most but not all the Perrys.
On 14 April 1988 the U.S.S. Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) struck a mine which detonated an estimated 250 pounds of TNT.

 Will Stubbs's accomplishments
Following completion of the Surface Warfare Officers School curricula in Newport, RI, then-Ensign Stubbs reported in February of 1986 to USS FAHRION (FFG 22) in Mayport, FL.
While in USS FAHRION he served as Auxiliaries Officer and Damage Control.
In August 1988, then-Lieutenant Stubbs reported to the USS RICHMOND K. TURNER (CG 20) at Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, MS.
