The fourth Farragut (DDG-37) was also the lead ship of her class of destroyers (Farragut-class guided missile frigate/destroyer), commissioned on 10 December 1960.
The fifth USS Farragut (DDG-99) is an flight IIa Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer ordered in 2001, under construction by the Bath Iron Works in Maine, and scheduled to be commissioned in 2006.

The third USS Farragut (DD-348), named for Admiral David Glasgow Farragut USN (1801-1870), was the lead ship of her class of destroyers in the United States Navy.
Farragut was berthed in a nest of destroyers in East Loch, Pearl Harbor, at the time of the Japanese attack on 7 December 1941.
Farragut was decommissioned on 23 October 1945, stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 28 January 1947 and sold for scrap on 14 August 1947.

On 16 April 1942, Farragut sortied from Pearl Harbor with the Lexington (CV-2) task force, bound for the Coral Sea and a rendezvous with the Yorktown (CV-5) task force.
Next day, as it became apparent that a carrier battle was about to develop, Farragut was detached in the Support Group assigned to continue the search for the Japanese invasion forces as the main body of the fleet prepared for a key strategic victory in the air action.
Farragut’s group came under heavy air attack that afternoon, but drove the Japanese off, splashing at least five of the enemy, and receiving no damage to any ship.

The contract to build the class leader of the newly-designed FARRAGUTs was awarded to Bethlehem Steel's Quincy (MA) shipyard and USS FARRAGUT (DD 348) was launched on March 15, 1934, sponsored by the President's daughter- in-law, Mrs.
FARRAGUT was commissioned three months after her launching, and immediately became the showpiece of the Atlantic destroyer force as the newest destroyer available.
FARRAGUT returned to the central Pacific in 1944, where she served off Saipan and Guam, again adding her gunfire support to the invasion of one atoll after another.

USS Yorktown: Gene Roddenberry suggested that the USS Enterprise-A was first designated as USS Yorktown, and later recommissioned as USS Enterprise-A, probably because Yorktown was one of the names for the ship being considered when TOS was going into production.

USS Farragut, first of a class of eight 1365-ton destroyers, was built at Quincy, Massachusetts.
Her base was shifted from the west coast to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in October 1939, and she was moored there when Japan began the Pacific War with the 7 December 1941 surprise attack on that base.
Later in the year, Farragut was assigned to screen a force of oilers that sustained the fleet during its assaults on Japanese positions in the western Pacific.
