 USS Forsyth
Forsyth (PF - 102) was launched 20 May 1944 by American Shipbuilding Co., Cleveland, Ohio.
Later the day of the capture, on board Forsyth, her medical officer, joined by the doctor from U-234 operated on one of Sutton's men who had been wounded accidentally while collecting small arms on board the submarine.
On 8 March Forsyth departed Recife for Trinidad; at 2400 14 March, while at sea, she was decommissioned as a ship of the Navy and immediately thereafter, was recommissioned as a Coast Guard cutter.

Don Roban enlisted in the USCG at age 16 in 1942 and in 1943 was on a PT boat in Florida before being assigned to the USS Davenport in 1944.
The USS Davenport (PF-69) departed Galveston at 0843 on Wednesday, 28 Feb 1945, underway for Guantanamo Bay, attached to the DD-DE Shakedown Group, Cdr.
Some of the crew were startled in the middle of one night when someone got up and found the deck in their berthing compartment covered with several inches of water.

A Navy DE the USS Sutton participated with the Forsyth and one of the armed guards from the Sutton was accidentally shot when the Germans were being disarmed.
The German Doctor from aboard the sub examined the sailor and found he was in critical condition and due to the limited facilities aboard the sub and it being a 2 doctor job summoned the Forsyth's doctor.
The wounded sailor along with the German doctor came aboard the Forsyth and the operation was performed.

Vince enlisted in the United States Coast Guard (USCG) on 31 March 1941 at the age of 18 and served in Texas at various stations and beach patrols before his assignment in early 1945 to the USS Davenport in Galveston, Texas.
Don enlisted in the USCG at age 16 in 1942 and in 1943 was on a PT boat in Florida before being assigned to the USS Davenport in 1944.
Epilogue: Don says that several years ago, he heard a story reported on the radio that a previously unknown wreck of a German sub had recently been found off the coast of Massachusetts – he thinks that there is a possibility that this could be the USS Davenport’s “kill”.

Her officers were awarded Bronze Medals by the authority of a joint resolution of Congress that was approved on 3 March 1901.
1951- USS Valcour was rammed by the collier Thomas Tracy.
Three days later Forsyth joined Sutton (DE-771) in accepting the surrender of U-234 at 46º 39' N. x 45º 39' W. This submarine was carrying a German technical mission and supplies, including a cargo of uranium, to Tokyo.
