 USS Nautilus (SS-168) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
USS Nautilus (SF-9/SS-168), a Narwhal-class submarine and one of the "V-boats," was the fifth ship of the United States Navy to bear that popular ship's name.
During her 13th patrol, on 31 October 1944, Nautilus finished off USS Darter, which had run aground on a reef and could not be recovered.
Decommissioned with a bottle of champagne over the forward six inch (152 mm) gun on 30 June, she was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register 23 July and sold 16 November, to the North American Smelting Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for scrapping.

 USS Darter (SS-227) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
USS Darter (SS-227), a Gato class submarine, was the first ship of the United States Navy to be named for the darter, any of many small American fresh-water fishes, closely related to the perch family.
Finally, Nautilus (SS-168) arrived on 31 October and scored 55 hits with her six-inch (152 mm) guns.

 USS Nautilus (SSN 571)
From May 8 to May 10 the ship was demonstrated to the Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey for final acceptance trials, and on May 11, 1956, the USS NAUTILUS (SSN-571) was accepted by the Navy "for unrestricted service".
USS NAUTILUS (SSN-571) descended from a long line of proud fighting ships, and was the sixth ship of the fleet to bear the name.
On the morning of January 17, 1955, at 1100 hours EST, NAUTILUS' Commanding Officer, Commander Eugene P. Wilkinson, USN, ordered all lines cast off and signaled the memorable and historic message "UNDERWAY ON NUCLEAR POWER", to the Submarine Force Commander, thus adding a new page to world and naval history.

The "Polynesian" was built by R.Steele & Co, Greenock in 1872 for the Montreal Ocean SS Co. She was a 3,983 gross ton ship, length 400ft x beam 42.5ft, straight stem, one funnel, three masts (rigged for sail), iron construction, single screw and a speed of 13 knots.
SS Patricia, built by A. Vulcan, of Stettin, for the Hamburg American Line, and launched on 20 February 1899.
Gibbs, Passenger.Liners of the Western Ocean reports only one ship of the name President Lincoln, in service 1907-1917 for Hamburg American Line.

H-9, (SS-152) was launched at Puget Sound Navy Yard on 23 November 1918, commissioned there 25 November Lt. Clarke Withers in command.
Joining SubDiv 6 at San Pedro, and later being transferred to SubDiv 7 there, H~ participated in a variety of battle and training exercises along the West Coast.
She also patrolled off Santa Catalina Island, and put in at Mare Island for periodic overhauls.

During the assault on 3 April 1945 the UVALDE was credited with shooting down a Japanese suicide plane making an attack on the USS LATIMER (APA-152).
There on 10 November 1944, after the explosion and sinking of the ammunition ship USS MOUNT HOOD (AE-11), the UVALDE provide vital assistance to ships in the harbor suffering heavy casualties from the blast.
Prior to her commissioning on 20 May 1944 she was acquired by the Navy and renamed for Uvalde County, Texas, the home of former Vice-President John Nance Garner.
