USS Honolulu (CL-48) of the United States Navy was a Brooklyn-class light cruiser active in the Pacific War.
Honolulu operated out of Espiritu Santo in early 1943 with Task Force 67 in an attempt to engage the "Tokyo Express." During May she engaged in heavy bombardment on New Georgia in the Solomons.
Honolulu took part in bombardment of the southeastern part of Saipan in early June as the Navy drove steadily across the Pacific.

The second Honolulu was launched 20 August 1937 by the New York Navy Yard, sponsored by Miss Helen Poindexter, daughter of the Governor of Hlawaii; and commissioned 15 June 1938, Captain Oscar Smith in command.

USS Greeneville, a nuclear-powered submarine, was on patrol south of Oahu, Honolulu, when it surfaced and collided with the fishing boat which was carrying high school students.
The USS Greeneville was performing the emergency surfacing maneuver unofficially known as the "killer whale jump." During such a maneuver the submarine surfaces at a speed of around 50 km/h.
The USS Memphis was able to recover from the collision (it was not as heavily damaged as Kursk, because the collision did not result in any explosions aboard the American submarine) and, after pulling down the rescue buoy, left the scene of the accident.

 National Park Service: World War II Warships in the Pacific
USS Croaker is missing two of her forward torpedo tubes, one complete diesel engine, parts of two other diesel engines, both periscopes, and much of her internal equipment.
USS Torsk appears to meet the criteria for designation because she is the only surviving Tench class submarine that saw service in the Pacific.
USS Torsk is particularly significant in that she fired the last torpedoes of World War II and is credited with sinking the last Japanese combat ships to be lost in the war.

USS Honolulu (SSN 718) left on a six-month deployment Aug. 21 to join the USS Abraham Lincoln Battle Group in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
A nuclear-powered Los Angeles-class attack submarine under the command of Cmdr. Charles K. Harris, USS Honolulu was commissioned on July 6, 1985 and is homeported at Pearl Harbor.
Harris cited that it was an honor to be on board Honolulu and to be homeported near the boat's namesake city.

I reported aboard the USS Honolulu April 16th 1941 and was assigned to the 1st Div.
During the war the USS Honolulu earned 9 battle stars in the S. and S. Pacific,1 star for Pearl Harbor in the American defense, 1 star Philippine Liberation medal and a Philippine Presidential unit citation and the Navy Unit commendation ribbon.The Honolulu sunk one cruiser,four destroyers and four planes and bombarded eight different Islands.
I was aboard the USS Honolulu from April l941 to March 1946.

The aircraft carrier battle group USS Carl Vinson moved into operations near Kauai this weekend as it makes its way to Asia as a possible replacement for the battle group led by the carrier USS Kitty Hawk.

On December 7, 1941, this vessel was moored outboard of the U.S.S. Honolulu at Berth B-17, Navy Yard, Pearl Harbor, T.H. At 0756 two of the ship's officers observed a large number of dark colored planes heading towards Ford Island from the general direction of AIEA.
Since the St Louis was tied alongside her flagship (Honolulu) at a pier in the Navy Yard, I completed my journey to the ship by walking several hundred yards in the Navy Yard.
It would be appropriate to explain that the Honolulu had already been hit by an enemy bomb that had disabled her and "rocked" us quite a bit.
