Indiana took part in bombardment of San Juan on 12 May 1898, and returned to Key West with the squadron to guard Havana, Cuba, on 18 May.
Indiana did not join in the initial chase because of her extreme eastern position on the blockade, but was near the harbor entrance when destroyers Pluton and Furor emerged.
Indiana returned to her previous pattern of training exercises and fleet maneuvers after the war, and made practice cruises for midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy before decommissioning on 29 December 1903.

USS Indiana left Hampton Roads, Virginia on the 9th November for the Panama canal with the destination of Tongatabu Island.
USS Indiana joined the Task force 58 a large carrier force set with the task top launch an attack on the Marcus islands which took part of the 31st August returning again with the force back to Pearl harbor.
USS Indiana went for a major overhaul at Puget Sound on the 31st October and went into reserve on the 11th September 1946 She was stricken form the navy list on the 1st June 1962 and sold for $418,387 on the 6th September 1963 and scrapped in 1964.

Indiana steamed to Pearl Harbor 21 October 1943, and departed 11 November with the support forces designated for the invasion of the Gilbert Islands.
Indiana joined famed Task Force 58 for the Truk raid 29-30 April and bombarded Ponape Island 1 May. In June the battlewagon proceeded to the Marianas with a giant American fleet for the invasion of that strategic group.
Indiana's mast is erected at Indiana University at Bloomington; her anchor rests at Fort Wayne; and other relics are on display in various museums and schools throughout the state.

The night of Feb. 1, 1944, USS Washington was part of a task group on the prowl in the Japanese-held Marshall Islands.
Collision was imminent and horrified bluejackets on the bridge stood transfixed as the Washington's siren blared its warning and the general alarm emitted an electrifying bong, bong.
The Indiana had preceded the Washington to Pearl and already was in dry-dock when the Washington steamed past Ford Island and went alongside the giant hammer-head crane.

At the outbreak of the Spanish-American War, USS INDIANA formed part of Admiral Sampson's Squadron which sailed to intercept Admiral Cervera's squadron, known to be en route to the Caribbean from Spain.
INDIANA did not join in the initial chase westward because of her extreme eastern position on the blockade, but she was near the harbor entrance when the Spanish Torpedo Boat Destroyers PLUTON and FUROR emerged.
INDIANA was sunk as bombing target on November 1, 1920, and the wreck was sold for scrapping in March, 1924.

USS Indiana, a 35,000-ton South Dakota class battleship built at Newport News, Virginia, was commissioned in April 1942.
Indiana then moved to the Central Pacific, where she participated in the invasions of the Gilbert Islands in November 1943 and the Marshalls in January 1944.
USS Washington, whose bow was wrecked in the accident, is in the left background, alongside USS Vestal (AR-4).
