Returning to New London in the fall, ''Irex'' continued her important training out of New England and in the Caribbean Sea until 26 October 1953 when she sailed for the Mediterranean Sea to join the US 6th Fleet.
Returning to New London 3 February 1954 ''Irex'' resumed her operations along the East Coast and in the Caribbean for the next two years.
''Irex'' was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 17 November 1969 and sold for scrapping on 13 September 1971.

USS Irex (SS-482), a Tench-class submarine">Tench-class submarine, was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for the irex, one of the oceanic fishes belonging to the family carangidae.

Irex again deployed in 1956 to the Mediterranean with units of the Sixth Fleet.

USS Sea Cat (SS-399), the name being a shortened form of sea catfish, a marine fish of little food value found off the southeastern coast of the United States, was authorized to be built by the United States Congressional Act of 9 July 1942...
USS Sea Cat, herself, accounted for some 400 tons of enemy vessels by gunfire, and she picked up two survivors of the sunken enemy ships for questioning...before returning to Pearl Harbor on 25 June 1945.
Because USS Sea Cat was a potential candidate for patrols in the Sea of Japan, Frequency Modulated QLA sonar equipment was installed in her prior to her fourth war patrol.

 IREX (SS482)
Returning to New London in the fall, IREX continued her important training out of New England and in the Caribbean until 26 October 1953 when she sailed for the Mediterranean to join the 6th Fleet.
IREX again deployed in 1956 to the Mediterranean with units of the powerful 6th Fleet.
IREX was decommissioned and struck from the Navy list 17 November 1969 and sold for scrapping 13 September 1971.

Upon graduating from Sub School he was originally assigned to the USS THRESHER but because he was dating at the time he was allowed to swap assignments with a classmate and went to the USS TINOSA.

I was on board the uss Archerfish during the Korean conflict.
He was a RMC (SS) when he retired it very likely that he is the same as the RM1 that is one of your shipmates here.

Following graduation from the Naval Academy in 1943, he served for weveral months as a TEchnical Observer at the Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida, and in September reported to the Submarine Base, New London, Connecticut, for submarine training.
In August, 1946, he joined the USS DIABLO (SS-479) at Panama, Canal Zone, and in April, 1948, was detached for duty as gunnery officer of the USS IREX (SS-482).
The IREX, under his command, won the Battle Efficiency Pennant and was designated the outstanding submarine in the Atlantic fleet.
