 USS Kadashan Bay (CVE 76)
KADASHAN BAY (AVG 76) was reclassified ACV 76 20 August 1942; reclassified CVE 76 15 July 1943 and launched 11 December 1943 by Kaiser Co., Inc., Vancouver, Wash., under a Maritime Commission contract, sponsored by Miss Audrey Ackerman and commissioned 18 January 1944, Captain R. Hunter in command.
KADASHAN BAY joined the "Magic-Carpet" fleet at Guam in September and arrived in San Francisco 26 September with her group of veterans.
She was reclassified CVU 76 on June 12 1956, and AKV 26 on 7 May 1959.

KADASHAN BAY launched her early local ASP/CAP, consisting of the customary four FM-2s and four TBMs (one of these was being flown by Ens.
USS ST LO then started to sink by the stern with a turning motion which brought all of the bow verically into the air as she sank from sight.
USS KADASHAN BAY arrived at Kossol Passage on 30 Nov only to learn that there would be a 10 day delay in the operation, as Japanese air opposition had not been neutralized as anticipated.

On the 11th, SHAMROCK BAY continued west, and delivering planes to Johnston Island en route, arrived at Seeadler Harbor, on Manus in the Admiralty Islands, on the 22d to join the 7th Fleet.
KADASHAN BAY (CVE-76) was hit by a kamikaze and was unable to accommodate all of her planes.
SHAMROCK BAY arrived at Boston on 1 March; underwent overhaul; and was decommissioned on 6 July 1946.

 12 September 1944
Ensign Thomas C. Tillar, USNR, a pilot from USS Hornet (CV-12), in TG 38.1, is rescued by Filipinos after his F6F Hellcat ditches off Apit Island, off the southwestern coast of Leyte.
Before Tillar is recovered by SOC Seagull from heavy cruiser USS Wichita (CA-45), he learns from his rescuers that the size of the Japanese garrison on Leyte is negligible.

 Kamikaze Damage to US and British Carriers
Franklin was taken in tow by the cruiser USS Pittsburgh until she managed to work up enough steam to make 14 knots.
The forward portion of her flight deck was removed in 1959 and used to repair the storm-damaged USS Valley Forge (CVS-45).
For instance, USS Ticonderoga and USS Franklin were both hit twice and USS Intrepid suffered a total of five kamikaze hits.
