 The History of USS Current
The Pawnee assumed the towing of the Houston from the USS Boston.
USS Randolph was repaired and later rejoined the 5th Fleet, participated in the invasion of Okinawa and launched aircraft to assist in the massive fire bombing raids on the Japanese home islands until the Japanese Surrender.
The USS Skipjack was later delivered to the Mare Island Shipyard for study and then sunk as a target off the Southern California coast on August 11, 1948.

U.S.S Fletcher (DDE 445) with CDR Claude S. Farmer as Commanding Officer was berthed at Mike One in Pearl Harbor, Oahu, T. outboard of U.S.S. O’Bannon (DDE 450) as the year began 1 Jan, 1954.
USS Radford DDE 4446 came alongside Fletcher for personnel transfer, then USS Stembel DD644 came alongside to port for personnel transfer.
Detached with Carpenter and Radford to refuel from USS Coolant AO53.

 DANFS: USS LST-769
USS LST-769 was built by the American bridge company at Ambridge, Pennsylvania, and completed in September, 1944.
It was placed in partial commissioning on September 28, 1944, and upon arrival at New Orleans, Louisiana, on October 9, it was placed in full commissioning with a complement of six officers and 113 enlisted men of the United States Coast Guard.
At Pearl Harbor, the LST-769 was initiated into the LST custom of shifting berth or anchorage several times each day.

Shortly after reporting aboard the USS POLLUX he was promoted to CSK (SKC) because of his former military experience as a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and his longshore experience.
Chuck was a FA on the POLLUX and retired in 1967 as a BTC.
George was a RMC on the AKS-4 and retired in 1968 as a RMCM.

I was aboard the lst 492 on Aug 15 1944.
LST 376 was sunk by an E-boat torpedo in the early morning hours of June 8, returning from Omaha Beach.
I was Gunnery Officer aboard the LST 655 (also built at Ambridge, where we boarded her) We were not in sight of the 282 when she was hit, but had seen a JU 88 earlier in the day - the only enemy plane sighted the entire time.

Was transfered for a short period in an emergency deployment to the USS Bordelon to be on the blockade of Cuba as a radioman, transfered back to the Luce afterwards.
I attended the funeral of President John F. Kennedy while in DC.My last duty was aboard the USS Salish out of Mayport Fla. We were the prime ship that fought the fires aboard the cruise ship Vi king Princess as she burned in the Carribean.
Subsequently, I was assigned to USS Indepen- dence CVA-62 at NOB Norfolk.

After several months of Escort duties and Anti-sub sweeps, she was given the assignment, a trip to Sydney, Australia escorting the cruiser USS Nashville.
During that six years she would be involved with a hunter killer group that included the USS Sicily CVE-118 and USS Philippine Sea.
Placed out of commission "in service" 2 September 1958, The USS GREENWOOD served as a reserve training ship until 2 October 1961, when she was recommissioned in response to the Berlin Crisis.

Sider had also commissioned USS CHARLES LAWRENCE DE -53 at the Beth-Hingham shipyard in Boston, MA, in May 1943, and served with her until November 1944, before his orders to commission DE-340.
As the body of Sylvester J. Palsulski, AOM 2/c, USNR was transferred to his ship USS CORREGIDOR CVE-58, the National Ensign was flown at half-mast for one-half hour by all ships in the Task Group.
USS OBERRENDER DE-344 was also in port with her damage considered beyond repair.

Then LST 522 will leave for Subic Bay, Philippine Islands to be decommissioned and LST 522 will be turned over to the Philippine Commonwealth.
1505 hours USS LST 522 was put out of commission with a decommissioning ceremony by the Captain, Lt. JG Thomas Costello, and the remaining crew.

Task Group 1.1 [TG 1.1] was responsible for instrumenting all target ships and target areas.

Arriving at Guam June 9, 1945, she unloaded and proceeded to Saipan arriving on the 16th to load 4,400 drums of 80-octane gasoline for Okinawa, where she arrived on the 26th.
After unloading at Nago Wan she proceeded to Naha to take aboard 220 men of the 6th Assault Tractor Battalion, 9th Amphibious Tractor Battalion and the 6th Assault Signal Company of the U. Marine Corps who were veterans of many campaigns ultimately bound for the United States.
They were disembarked at Guam on July 11, 1945, and the ship returned to Saipan on July 12th.
